Our society totally undervalues the enjoyment that comes with doing things by ourselves. It's always all about being with other people, never about doing things alone or for your own well-being.
Well, I happen to think this is ridiculous. You can be the most social person on this planet, but sometimes, you just need a little time to yourself. This week, take some time to try a few things by yourself. You'll be amazed by how independent and relaxed you'll feel afterwards. We all need to spend a little more time with the most important person in our lives.
1. Try a new coffee shop or café
You know that cool, kind of hipster coffee shop you've always wanted to try? It's the perfect place to go by yourself. No one there will judge you, because they're probably too busy doing their own hipster things to worry about what you're doing. Bring your laptop or a good book and some headphones. Settle in for some "you" time, or even bring your homework and get some studying done! However you choose to spend your alone time is up to you.
2. Watch a movie
That movie you've been dying to see that they just put on Netflix? Find a comfy spot in your house on the couch or in your bed and watch it! You'll enjoy it much more than if you were with a bunch of people and couldn't focus on what was going on. There's no better person to "Netflix and Chill" with than yourself.
3. Stretch or do some Yoga
Yoga is the perfect alone time activity if you're into it, because it's actually meant to be a solo activity. If you're not into yoga, try doing some stretches in your room. This video is one of my all time favorites for a good stretch. You may not even realize how stiff you are, or how much tension you're carrying around, until you try stretching out those muscles. It will help you feel so much more relaxed afterwards!
4. Listen to new music
Spend a few hours just looking through iTunes or Spotify and listening to new songs. Picking out new music is one of those things you have to dedicate some time to, and you don't need anyone else's help. You'll appreciate it so much when you have all this new music to listen to, and when you discover a cool new song before any of your friends.
5. Read a book or magazine
Seriously, when was the last time you actually read a book, or even a magazine, for fun on your own time? It will do your brain some good to absorb something that isn't from a boring textbook.
6. Go on a walk
Nature and a breath of fresh air is always guaranteed to do you some good, and it's one of the best ways to get some alone time to. Throw on those Nikes and grab your headphones!
7. Cook or bake something new
Head on over to Pinterest and download that recipe you've been dying to try. Plan in advance so you can hit the grocery store (also by yourself) before hand. You won't believe how self-sufficient and independent you feel when you get to enjoy the finished product you put so much effort into. And if it doesn't turn out exactly like it looks in the picture, no one ever has to know.
