Texas might be one of the most unique places in the United States, which means that going to college here as an international student is an interesting experience, to say the least. There was some cultural shock at first, but I ultimately learned to appreciate everything Texas has to offer.
1. Cowboy Boots
There is nothing more striking than cowboy boots. You hate them at first, but by the end of Freshman year, they start growing on you.
2.The Use of "Y'all"
It sounds so weird at first, but after a couple of months, you get used to it.
3. The Athletic Clothing Hype
Everyone wears sneakers and shorts/sweatpants, and by everyone, I mean EVERYONE. You try to be "different" or "trendy" for some time, but ultimately give up and embrace the joy of being comfortable.
4. Football = Religion
Texans take football very seriously, which means that your Saturdays in the Fall consist of games and more games.
5. The Weather
You thought Summers would end in September, but in reality, you will be sweating on your way to class until November.
6. Greek Life Everywhere
When you walk to class everybody is wearing a t-shirt of a specific sorority/fraternity, and you feel like everyone is part of Greek life, even though your school has like 40,000 students. It is one of those college traditions that you slowly begin to accept and suddenly realize how much you want to learn about it.
7. The People
It is true what they say about Southern hospitality. Texans are some of the nicest and most welcoming people you will ever meet.
