7 Things I Don't Tell Dad Quite Often Enough

Even if I don't say it all the time, please know that I mean it.

Dad, I don't tell you these things often enough, but...

1. I am proud of you.

I am proud of you for who you are as a person. You are not just a successful lawyer, but you are the best dad in the entire world. You helped instill traits in me like dedication, responsibility, and kindness and, for that, I am very grateful. You try so hard, even when things get tough. You love to spend time with your family and have gained some wonderful friends over the years. You have a loving heart and a smart brain. I am proud of you, Mommy and Michelle are proud of you, and I know your mom and dad are proud of you in Heaven.

2. You are funny.

I may pretend to be embarrassed when you bust out into uncoordinated dances in Publix, but I think they are very goofy. Also, your "12 Rules For Dating My Daughter" shirt has earned some quality hilarity points with me (even if I may not want you to wear it in front of my boyfriend).

3. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry, Dad. I know, you always say to not apologize for things that I try my best at, but that doesn't mean I don't feel bad. I am sorry for the times I didn't fulfill expectations. I know that you want the absolute best for me, but I am going to make mistakes. Thank you for dealing with them.

4. You make the best BBQs.

Yes, I do tell you this whenever we have Sunday barbecues, but I love them. The food you make is delicious and I know the effort comes right from the heart. But, it's not just the food that makes these memories great. It is the family time that I look forward to on Sunday evenings, sitting outside on the patio and laughing, conversing, or enjoying the silence.

5. I wish that the sports teams could hear you.

You know, through the television. Maybe one of their biggest fans and a huge sports fanatic will get them to whip their butts into gear.

6. Thank you.

Thank you, Daddy. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for being one of my biggest fans. Thank you for giving me a reality check when I need it. Thank you for loving me when I feel like I am unlovable. Thank you for providing me with a great lifestyle. Thank you for helping us make beautiful memories as a family. Thank you for being the best dad ever.

7. I love you.

I love you a lot, Daddy.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
