So the greatest email of all emails came in today from your college's administration with the heading: ALL CLASSES CANCELLED DUE TO SNOW. Your entire being leaps up in excitement! Usually your college has you trekking through blizzards to get to class claiming, "It's just a couple of snowflakes." Not today though. Today is now your day to seize. You rush to the window to see that there is in fact a beautiful little flurry right outside your door. You text your friends as you begin in make plans for the day. But oh...what to do? Don't worry. I've got you. Here are seven things to do on a snow day.
1. Sleep.
Literally all day, just sleep. You are getting a much needed break from school. Honestly, I usually get maybe six hours of sleep at night if I'm lucky. Thanks to the loaded amount of homework, studying and readings I have, it's a rare occasion if I'm ever asleep by midnight. So, grab your Snuggie, turn on that sound machine, and sleep tight my friends.
2. Go sledding.
I'm from the south -- Alabama in fact. The very most southern part of Alabama where snow does not exist. If it gets below 32 degrees the entire city shuts down. So, if you've got a snow day take advantage of it! Grab whatever you can: a real sled, a top to a trash can, a piece of cardboard. Just get out there and embrace all the fun that the snow can give you!
3. Read a book.
No, not any school readings that are due the day you get back to class. Find a comfy couch near a fire place and cozy up with a good book you've dying to read but haven't had the time for. Appreciate the downtime you have while you've got it.
4. Netflix.
Duh. I don't think this one needs much explaining. "House of Cards" or "Narcos"? You pick.
5. Movie marathon.
If you aren't feeling Netflix and have the entire "Harry Potter" movie collection on hand, find a DVD player (if you can nowadays) and kick back for a few hours. Nothing like escaping from the cold and going to Hogwarts for a day, am I right?
6. Bake.
Something, anything. So long as you don't wait to go to the store before the snow gets too bad, you can spend the day baking some sweet treats for your friends. Pull out that yummy hot chocolate recipe that your mom gave you or maybe keep it simple with some cookies. Nothing like some delicious sweet snacks to make your snow day.
7. Build a snowman.
Sorry if I got that song stuck in your head. Maybe wage a snowball fight with the sorority house next door. Embrace the snow. In fact, thank it for giving you the day off.
It's rare when we get a day or two off from the snow but it would be a crime not to embrace it when it does happen. "Snow" make the most of it!
