-“My best friend is the man who in wishing me well wishes it for my sake.” –Aristotle

1. Thank you for reminding I’m important even when I’m not feeling that way.

There’s nothing like your wit to lift my spirits when life lets me down; which happens more often than not. You provide me with a male’s perspective while maintaining your always present protective stance over me. Your love never goes unnoticed.

2. Thank you for pigging out with me whenever I want.

You never make me feel guilty about my diet choices, and remind me of societies’ falsified dietary and beauty standards. Our 10:00 PM trips to Five Guys are filled with the best discussions, and you never protest when I eat our entire “shared” order of fries.

3. Thank you for making Fun of my exes.

You’re able to make me laugh until I cry, and you have comical ways of letting me know you never thought they were good enough. One of my all-time favorite quotes of yours being:

“You were settling with him! Everyone knows it. You know it. I know it. My dog knows it. Abraham Lincoln knows it!”

4. Thank you for relating to me.

Having you in my corner when life makes no sense is enlightening. Our matched observations of the world can keep us up all night in deep dialogue for hours in mutual laughter or melancholy. You respond with enthusiasm to any remark or complaint I toss your way. You’ve never made me feel odd for my unconventional personality; in fact you encourage it and then remind me of your own complexities.

5. Thank you for keeping it REAL.

You remind me when I’m not living up to my potential of who you KNOW me to be as a woman, friend, and just a person of this world. You do this because you believe with all of your heart that I am destined for greatness. Thank you.

6. Thank you for liking and replying to every meme and article I tag you in.

It is a true friend that takes the time to not only read but reply to everything I see that reminds me of you or our friendship. Whether it is a Big Bang Theory meme, an article about spirituality, or just a quote that resonates in both of our lives, you always let me know you’ve seen it and appreciate me including you in my day even if we haven’t been able to hang out in months.

7. Above all, thank you for being my confidant.

We know of each other’s insecurities, goals, shortcomings, and achievements. We pick each other up and remind the other that we’re not alone.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
