7 Things My Mom Taught Me

Growing up we all look up to our mommas. "Mom you actually might be insane if you think that's true," has been a thought in my head plenty of times. The elementary version of us agrees with everything she says because we're not big enough to have a good fight yet. The middle school version of us snaps back and argues even the littles things like if the sky is blue or not. The high school version, well we all know those were rough times. But now, being a college student away from my mom most of the year, I realize maybe she is right.

1. "Boys are like busses, they come by every 15 minutes."

Point blank your mom is almost always right about boys. You were awesome long before he loved you so you will be that way after as well. They aren't worth worrying about because they don't grow up until they're about 30, even then they're still 15 at heart (sorry dad).

2. Everything happens for a reason.

There's always going to be doubt in our heads about why something is happening but your mom will always assure you theres a bigger, better something out there waiting for you to find it.

3. You are who you are friends with. Girl's are mean, find the good ones.

No matter if you're curing cancer or just got out of jail, your actions reflect onto your friends in whatever light you want to be show. People view you how your friends are and they'll assume you're the same way. Pick your friends wisely, and trust only those who deserve your attention. Your mom was always right about the mean girls that she didn't know if she liked or not.

4. You can't and will NOT be able to please everyone.

There's always going to be someone who is jealous, bitter or just wants to see you fail. Don't let these people be the reason you don't go chasing after your dreams. That's what they want. Your mom always taught you to do what your heart told you to do.

5. When you're lonely, it's God's way of saying come back to him.

We all slip up. We all have those days where absolutely everything goes wrong and you just don't understand why. Your mom always told you to go pray about it. Better things are on the way and you have so much happiness to look forward to!

6. Don't wish your life away.

One day you're 10 riding your bike around your neighborhood with all your besties dreaming of being a teenager with a car driving around jammin' to your favorite songs. You blink and you're that teenager driving around with way too much homework that you should be doing, but instead you're driving around listening to depressing country music because some stupid boy broke your heart. Don't wish your life away. Your mom always told you to enjoy being young, you only get that opportunity once!

7. Confidence is key.

I think that statement speaks for itself. Confidence is keys so rock what your momma gave you, as she always said!

Long story short, your mom always had the best advice. She always knew exact where that lost item was (I still think she has super powers). She always was that shoulder to cry on when you thought your world was coming to an end because you and your best friend were in a fight. Your mom will always be there for you, it's their job. She may be annoying but she's the one that brought you into this world (and she can take you out).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
