When you go to college, getting involved and getting to know the group of people you have been thrown into the mix of are some of the most important aspects of college life. For many people, they join intramural sports teams, drama clubs, or student affair groups. But for some girls, they chose to be a part of something bigger than themselves: a sorority. Going through the process of which sorority fits you best or which one you think would be the most fun is challenging, but it wasn't for me the minute I met the sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau. I joined an amazing group of girls who have given me so many things.
1. Sisters who will always be there for you.
No matter the mood I am in or the time of day, I know I could turn to any one of these girls and we would talk for hours, eat ice cream and vent about life. Sisters will have your back when you've gotten yourself in a situation and feel like you have no way out. Sisters are the ones you can turn to at any moment for a laugh or a shoulder to cry on.
2. A big who is my lifeline.
Whether it's going to football games, going to the mall to spend too much money, or sitting in bed watching gossip girl, there is never a moment between us that isn't filled with laughter. No matter how far or how close, we are inseparable and talk as though we've known each other since the day we were born. I have definitely found my long lost twin and any one of the girls will be with me in a nursing home when we are 80.
3. Sisters who inspire me.
Whether it's with their leadership skills, their story, or just the way that they are. Each of my sisters inspires me in some way and I am extremely thankful for every single one of them. Each semester at our sister fire, I feel closer to every single one of you and each of you inspire me with your aspirations and hearts. You all push me to be my best self and I can guarantee you that any of our sisters would say the same.
4. My ride or dies
People always say that you find your best friends in college--the ones you relate to the most, the ones who you share your deepest secrets with, the ones who will stay in the library until 5 a.m. with you, and the ones who have your back regardless. Alpha Sigma Tau blessed me with these ladies and I could not imagine life without them. Whether it be pushing each other to get that A on an exam or walking to the commons just so the other doesn't have to go alone, I wouldn't want to and couldn't do college without you guys.
5. Experience.
Through AST I have been able to experience many different things with my sisters right by my side. Going to THON to dance for 46 hours with my sisters was incredibly memorable, and experiencing it with them made it 10 times better. Canning for BOUNCE was exciting to raise money for children to be able to eat on the weekends, and dancing along the side of the road so people would see us was completely irreplaceable.
6. Connections.
Ever since I've joined AST, I've made connections within the student boy. But the most shocking and interesting part was making connections in my travels. When wearing letters or a AST hat, I have had older ladies come up to me and say, "I was an AST!" or, "I love your letters, I have the same ones because I was also a sister of Alpha Sigma Tau!" It has got to be one of the coolest experiences out there.
7. Sisterhood.
From the night I received my bid, I have never felt more loved and cared for here on campus. Thank you to all of my sisters for the amazing memories we have made and will continue to make. You all have a special place in my heart and mean the world to me.
