7 Things We Love About Fall

Yes, I'm taking the long way home solely to step on a few more crunchy leaves.

7 Things We Love About Fall

Summer was all fun and games while it lasted, but there are some things about it I just won’t miss, like waking up drenched in sweat or feeling the need to shower every few hours. Fall, summer’s less crazy but just as fun alter-ego, is the perfect mix of all the seasons without the sweltering heat or the obnoxious cold. Something about the chilly sweater season is so indescribably comforting and comes with so many perks, including but not limited to:

1. Fall Clothes

If there was one reason to love fall, this would be it. Sweaters and boots are effortlessly cute yet wonderfully comfortable, so you don’t have to sacrifice either to look good. Beanies and scarves always add a nice touch to an outfit but are very functional. Oh, and let's not forget the flannels. Overworn by "grunge" wannabe middle schoolers, yes. But still so cute. Overall, a great season fashion-wise.

2. Leaves Changing Colors

It is impossible to talk about fall without talking about the change in color schemes of the view outside. Flowers and green leaves are great, but nothing compares to when the leaves start to change into a beautiful hue of reds, oranges, and yellows. Even the least artsy person can rack up a decent amount of Instagram likes with a scenic picture of the newly colored-changed trees on campus.

3. Pumpkin Spice

There’s a reason why everyone is so obsessed with pumpkin spice… it’s good. Nothing screams “cozy” like being bundled up in your favorite sweater and scarf, sipping on the latest pumpkin spice drink or savoring the limited-edition pumpkin-spice bagel from Panera.

4. ABC Family's “13 Nights of Halloween”

Out of all the fun outdoor activities fall has to offer, nothing will ever beat staying in and watching "Halloweentown." I mean come on, it’s like the “Elf” of Halloween season.

5. Halloween

Need I say more? Although it's probably one of the most celebrated holiday traditions, many people don’t really know how the costume-wearing tradition came to be. But who cares? It's about candy and costumes, so don’t question it. According to Cady Heron, it’s one night you can be any slutty animal, profession or inanimate object, and nobody can really say anything. So accurate.

6. Thanksgiving

Every year, we sit down at a table with good food and good people, and we are reminded that life is good. The turkey and stuffing make our stomachs happy, and the company makes our hearts happy. What an unbeatable combination.

7. Pie

Apple, pumpkin, pecan – the variety is endless. Whether you’re craving something sweet after lunch or need a little midnight fix, pie is always the answer. Add a scoop of ice cream, and you’re in heaven.

Summer went by in a blink, and fall is bound to also. So take a detour to walk along the crunchy-leaf-covered paths a little bit longer, enjoy the pumpkin patches and haystack mazes and eat that last piece of pie. Enjoy the wonderful pumpkin-spice-filled season while it lasts because, just like all other good things, this limited-edition season only lasts a few months.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
