Celebrating Valentine’s Day -- single? Trust me, it can be done. It no longer requires a significant other to celebrate the power of love, and not having a significant other doesn’t mean that you need to sit in a carton of ice cream and cry your heart out. There are plenty of people in life to feel thankful for (hello, Zac Efron), and Valentine’s Day is a reason to celebrate those held near and dear. So, call up your girlfriends, ditch your sweatpants and extend this holiday to create a Galentine’s Day Weekend; no partners required.
1. Have a Plan
In order to celebrate a Galentine’s weekend successfully, a plan has to be made. Whether it be a road trip or an all-day movie marathon, you’ll feel less sad about not having a partner to share in the chocolate-obsessed holiday if you’re on a tight schedule.
2. Set the Mood
It’s not what you’re thinking. Glam up the weekend by creating a playlist full of fun, flirty, female artists and their power ballads. Lets face it; no one can ever be melancholy while singing along to “Wanna B," and karaoke with her friends is every girl’s dream.
3. Rock the Theme
There is absolutely nothing better than a good theme,
and just because you’re not celebrating Valentine’s Day with a significant
other does not mean that you have to wear black and internally curse every woman
you see walking down the street in red or pink. So throw on your craziest
heart decorated socks or rock your sexiest little red dress, which brings me
to…
4. Treat Yo(ur) Self
Whether it be on a new outfit, fancy dinner or a mani/pedi with the girls, make sure you spend some time on yourself this weekend. Retail therapy is usually the cure to all heartache, and there is no better way to shop than with your girlfriends.
5. Take a Turn on the Town
Don’t shut your face in your apartment all weekend just because of your relationship status. Let loose and show off the fact that you can flirt with anyone, anytime! Blast that music, craft a perfect smokey eye and post an awesome selfie -- because feeling the love through social media likes is basically the same as romantic love, right?
6. Send Out Galentines
Let the people you love know that you care enough to send out a hilarious e-card. They’ll be ecstatic to receive a Valentine, and you’ll have fun picking and choosing who gets the funniest message.
7. Don't Hate, Appreciate
Ultimately, instead of turning into a cold-hearted sea-witch because of all of the happy couples celebrating their love for one another, appreciate the people you do have and love in your life. Hug your sisters, besties, moms and grandmothers, and remember to tell them you love them. Because after all, you do owe your heart to them considering they’ve presumably been the ones to stitch it back together with wine and chocolate after some silly person broke it anyways.
