In 2007, I was in the fifth grade and I distinctly remember all of the complete bangers that came out that year. 2007 was the year that I started to listening to more music as websites like YouTube and programs like Limewire provided music in one convenient place without having to buy CDs. I like all kinds of music but some of my favorite songs of all time come from 2007. Here are seven songs that will make you feel extremely ancient in the year 2017.
1. Crank That (Soulja Boy)
Here’s a topical one with all of that recent drama between Soulja Boy and Chris Brown. I’m uninterested but seriously- Who doesn’t remember dancing to this at their spring fling when they were younger? It was the best of times, and they were the worst of times.
2. This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race
Here is a band that made my childhood and teenage years worth all of the embarrassing moments. I keep Fall Out Boy near and dear to my heart. I am so glad to have been introduced to this band when I was younger as an appetizer for the rest of my favorite music tastes.
3. Girlfriend
Avril Lavigne’s entire album "The Best Damn Thing" is a staple to pop punk in 2007. Even if you don’t like the genre, you know this song and you know every word. Am I right my fellow millennials?
4. Lip Gloss
I distinctly remember this song playing on every one of my girl friends’ MySpace profile autoplay. The music video to this gives off extreme 2007 vibes as well. The aesthetic is award-winning.
5. No One
This song is just a wonderful vocal performance from Queen Alicia Keys. "No One" won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song at the 2008 Grammy Awards, in case you forgot what a masterpiece this song is.
6. Hey There Delilah
Here is everyone’s favorite love song for years and years on end. I remember people making parodies of this song for three straight years and I think it has become a meme at this point. The amount of covers that emerged on early YouTube were plentiful.
7. Stronger
As controversial as Kanye West may be, you’ve got to admit that "Graduation" was an album that you heard for months because of how good it was. I can’t believe this song is going to be 10-years-old this year. It really feels like just yesterday that I first listened to this song and instantly knew how it was going to shape the rest of 2000s music.
