Here at Northwestern, almost all of us spend a huge amount of our time studying, reading, or writing essays–with the fast-paced rigor of the quarter system, it's practically impossible not to.
But after hours of working on one assignment alone, it's hard to stay focused. Here's a playlist to keep you de-stressed and motivated even at 3 a.m.:
1. The Protest by Flying Lotus
A mixture of hip-hop and electronic music with infusions of jazz and blues, this song will get you in the perfect state-of-mind for cranking out a research paper. With Flying Lotus' experience as a disc jockey and record producer, it's no wonder this song is so addicting to listen to.

If you've never listened to Japanese hip-hop before, DJ Krush's music is a great place to start. By incorporating nature sounds and jazz samples into his pieces, DJ Krush's songs make for the perfect studying background.
An electronic music group from England, Lemon Jelly weaves together electronica and downtempo to put listeners at ease.
Most people associate Diplo with mainstream artists such as Justin Bieber and Britney Spears, but hopefully he'll soon be more recognized for his own solo pieces. Diplo's electronic indie songs create the perfect atmosphere for studying.
As a San Francisco native, Tycho captures the spirit of vintage California with ambient melodies and post-rock influences. He provides listeners with unique snippets of human elements, such as radio clips, weather forecasts, or just simple breathing.
While he hasn't generated much attention in the US yet, French music producer Wax Tailor knows how to create a perfect mix of hip-hop and downtempo for those late-night study sessions.
