Humanity’s greatest contradictions — ethics versus ego.
1. Pride
We are the best organisms on the planet,
But the worst on the planet
We create life,
But destroy it 10 times as fast
2. Envy
We want people to do well,
But not better
We want green grass,
But don’t want to see greener
3. Wrath
We are weary of judgment,
But eager to be judges
We wander for love,
But halt in hate
4. Sloth
We want to be the best,
But don’t work towards better
We want change,
But refuse to commit
5. Greed
We have plenty,
But plenty is never enough
We crave the depth of true happiness,
But bask in shallow waters
6. Gluttony
We hate slavery,
But are slaves to ourselves
We need a glass half-full,
But settle for half-empty
7. Lust
We long for appreciation,
But thirst for temptation
We need the coziness of cloud 9,
But found comfort in rocks
Experts tell us that it’s healthy to get 8 hours of sleep per night – but tell me, what about the other 16 hours? We are intrinsically affected by the sun, and the moon, and the 7.125+ billion people in the world. Humans function in a domino-effect of a society; free souls – trapped – and drowning in a whirlpool of greed. The highest powers of that hierarchy, are people who want more – the most. But when does more become too much?
Many ancestral aphorisms refer to moderation – claiming that moderation is key. Thus, in the case of the 7 deadly sins, perhaps moderation is the peaceful solution to the dissolution of humanity. Pride, envy, wrath, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust; 7 triggers that can make or break a person in a split second. Sins are dangerous, sins are risky, sins are terrifying, and somehow beautiful – in their most dysfunctional ways.
Me; you; we; kin; the human race,
Infatuated with humpty-dumpty,
What a rush it is to see the fine-line you were told not to cross,
How amazing it is to know that the science behind gravity is equivalent to the imperceptible spirit of fate,
What a thrill it is to know that you hold the power to write the story;
Our story; the world’s story; humanity’s story,
A universal catastrophe of sin illustrated as a playful misfortune.
