7 Signs You're From The Chicago Suburbs

The Chicago suburbs seem to be the most incredible places to live, or at least that is what you will probably hear from anyone who lives there. Though there are many various signs to show where your home is, I have found these seven to be the most obvious:

1. You make a story of your meal from Portillo's when you come home

Even though we have all been there, apparently it is completely necessary to show everyone this beautiful hot dog, cheese fry and diet coke in front of us. (I am guilty of it too, though.)

2. You tell people you're from Chicago

Because it is very unlikely everyone in the world know where Elmhurst, LaGrange or Western Springs is.

3. You can brave the freezing cold or blistering heat

Whether below zero degrees or over one hundred degrees, we have seen it all!

4. You can get around downtown

Thanks to the Metra and the "L", we all have a direct route to downtown. This makes it super easy to enjoy a day shopping, eating lunch or going to the beach; or even to dinner and see the lights of the city.

5. Music festivals are a given

Lollapalooza, Country Thunder, you name it--we've been to it all. Being so close to these entertaining, exciting events, we tend to take advantage and really live it up.

6. You know the words to most country songs

Don't ask me why. I have no idea. But whether you love country or hate country, it is always being played. Chicago suburban kids just have a thing for Tim McGraw and Jason Aldean.

7. You love talking about where you're from

I've noticed that anyone from the Chicago suburbs loves loves loves telling everyone about their town--all the memories, what they do in their small towns, then trips downtown. I mean why wouldn't you? It's the best place to live!

Though we may all get carried away every now and then showing where we are from, I think we completely have a right to do so. Thinking about it now, I can't wait to be home!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
