There's the oldest child, the middle child, the only child and, of course, the youngest child. Being the youngest child has its perks but can also be the worst thing possible. So this is for all the youngest children out there--don't worry, you are definitely the better child.
1. You grew up in hand-me-downs.
Youth boys' basketball shirt? Got it. Worn out jeans? Got it. Over-sized shirts, sweaters and pants? Check, check and check. Youngest kids grew up in hand-me-downs, regardless of gender. Half of your closet was hand-me-downs because you were the youngest child; not only did you get your older siblings' clothes, you also received the entire families' hand-me-downs. Looking back now, you miss the comfort of the worn in clothes.
2. You are no longer the experiment child.
First born children are the experiments. By now, you can get away with anything and everything. You can fly under the radar and your parents barely realize that because you are the youngest one. It's guaranteed that everything you are doing has been done by your older siblings so by now your parents just accept it.
3. Your parents tend to mix your name up.
it does not matter how many older siblings you have--could be one, could be six. Your parents still called you by the wrong name. And guess what? They will always call you by the name.
4. Teachers would refer to you as the younger sibling in class.
Elementary school, middle school and even high school teachers recognized your last name and knew you were the younger sibling. Teachers would tend to ask if you were the last one of the family, or wonder if there were more to come-- this was good or bad. Your older sibling(s) set the standards for teachers and that either helped you or hurt you. Regardless, teacher would always refer to you as the younger sibling to your older sibling(s).
5. Your baby album is less than half the size of your older siblings.
Think this is a joke? Go compare your baby albums with your older siblings' albums right now. Personally, my baby album is not even complete. Meanwhile my brother has a strong four completed albums. I don't even have one. Your parents gave up on those precious baby moments, because you are the youngest and refer to number two.
6. You tend to get your way more often than not.
You learned how to manipulate your entire family to get everything you wanted. You knew how to put up a fight, you can probably cry on cue because that lead to you winning all of the battles. You knew what to do to get everything you wanted.
7. You get blamed for everything.
It may not have been your turn to get the laundry, or do the dishes or put the trash out but guess what? When somebody needs to be blamed it is you. You might be able to manipulate your family, but when somebody needs to put the blame on somebody, you are the fall person because you are the youngest. This is also the only time your parents know your name because your older sibling blamed you for doing something, or not doing something.
