Since the release of Pokemon Go I, like much of the world, have gained another obsession. It has been extremely hard for me to put my phone down and my battery is unfortunately paying the price. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. Here are 7 reasons why you probably won’t regret it either.
1. It’s what dreams are made of.
Literally! Anyone that has had even the slightest obsession with Pokemon dreamed of what it would be like to actually feel and act like a Pokemon trainer. If you would have told me as a child that I would be in my twenties and have a photo of me standing next to a Charmander, I would have thought you were crazy.
2. You get a slight workout.
Those who like to reach a certain amount of steps throughout the day now have a fun way to do it. Plus those who are normally not as active are getting the slightest bit of a workout. However, to hatch an egg you might have to do more than just a little walk down the street.
3. You are seeing more of your city.
It has only been two days and I have already seen more statues and monuments of my city than I ever have before. I purposely drove to a section of town because my friend said he spotted a Scyther.
4. Pokemon gyms keep you connected to your community.
The Pokemon gyms which are all around your city are a cool feature that lets you leave your Pokemon behind and have others try and defeat them. I had the pleasure of meeting someone at a gym near my workplace. It brought a connection between me and a complete stranger. We formed a bond over something we mutually had in common even if we have never met before this.
5. The hilarious memes.
Whoever is making all of these Pokemon Go memes need to keep them coming. Leave it to the people of the internet to provide continuous laughter throughout my day. I personally believe the Caveman Spongebob, Pokemon Go memes are the best.
6. The nostalgia is real.
Growing up, I was a huge fan of Pokemon. I collected the cards and had them organized by evolution in a binder. I definitely played the games. I had to wait outside for Pokemon revolution to come out. I even had my father buy me the books from Scholastics that came with two new Pokemon marbles every month. This game brings back so many memories. I can still think back to eating my bowl of cereal while watching Ash on my TV before school.
7. My childhood lives on.
With all these reasons to love Pokemon Go, by far my favorite is having my childhood continue on. This game is being played by many and it proves no matter the age, there is always time to have fun and remain a child at heart. So grab your phone, grab a friend, hit the streets, and catch them all.
