Being a Rho gamma was such a rewarding experience. I would recommend being one to every single person affiliated. It's more than just giving up your letters to help PNMs (potential new members) find their homes. You are able to develop such amazing bonds with some incredible people.
1. Learning to appreciate your Greek community even more.
As a member of a Greek organization, you are taught that Greek life stands as one. Many people don't really understand what that means because they are very biased about their own organization. Spending an entire summer with a few girls from each organization really opens your eyes to how special each of them is. You begin to get a better understanding of each chapter and you see that the stereotypes you have been told aren't always true.
2. Meeting the PNMs and connecting with them on a different level.
Being a Rho Gamma to PNMs, I feel like I made more of an impact on them than any other woman they talked to while going into each house/room. They automatically trust you and open up to you about anything they have been struggling with. You'll get 3 a.m. texts asking what outfit to wear, what color lipstick to wear, and pretty much anything along those lines.
3. Being their first impression on Greek life.
As a Rho Gamma, you are the first person they personally connect with from a Greek organization. You need to lead by example in this position and depending on the way you portray yourself, it could really influence one of their decisions on withdrawing or staying, because they want to be a part of the same community.
4. Strong bonds with new Rho Gammas.
Sometimes you forget that other organizations are full of wonderful women. You form amazing bonds with each and everyone of the Rho Gammas. It opens up your friend group and you begin to realize how much you really will miss them the second you run home.
5. Breaking Stereotypes.
Your PNMs will have heard many rumors about every organization and as Rho Gammas, we are there to prove them wrong. They picture sorority girls like the mean girls, the perfect girls, snobby girls, spoiled girls, etc. After developing a great bond with every one of your PNMs, they begin to understand that those stereotypes aren't always right.
6. Revealing yourself.
Revealing yourself to them is one of the most amazing feelings ever. When you run out and see their faces and hear their gasps, its an indescribable experience. You feel so accomplished to have helped these girls find their home, knowing that some of them are now your sisters.
7. Running home.
After months of not wearing your letters or being able to talk to your sisters, running home is so incredible. It's like your first bid day all over again and makes every single difficult moment you may have had in this experience worth it!
