Yik Yak is an ever so popular social media app that has been nothing but trouble. This app has become the home of cyberbullying. On this app, you can post anything you would like and no one is able to tell who wrote it. I believe Yik Yak should be completely banned/deleted because I have seen what it has done to people. I cannot believe that this is what our society has come to with social media. I believe social media should be a fun thing for people, not something that could potentially mentally harm someone.
1. Yik Yak starts rumors.
For some reason, people feel the need to start rumors about people on this app, which only starts drama. Most of the yaks are easily considered Cyberbullying. You can easily tell that the posters on this site get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
2. Yik Yak is degrading towards both men and women.
A lot of Yik Yak's are either looking for a hookup or saying that a certain male or female is either "hot" or "ugly". Usually these Yaks are followed by multiple comments agreeing or disagreeing with the Yak, usually in a negative way. How disgusting is this?!
3. Most of the Yik Yak's are pointless, anyways.
If you have or ever have had Yik Yak, I think we can all agree on this one. 99% of the posts are very dumb.
4. Yik Yak is mean.
We all know that Yik Yak is the perfect place for a bully. They can post things on this app and people will never know who posted it. The bullies can get away with so much. I'm so glad that Yik Yak was not around when I was in high school. I can't even imagine how upset it would make me.
5. Yik Yak isn't even useful!
Yik Yak is and never was useful. Never once have I ever found something that actually interested me or helped me out. In my opinion, this app is pointless.
6. I've actually seen posts about adults/parents.
These bullies don't stop at anything. I've seen posts about adults/parents that have either been rumors, gossip, or even degrading. This is wrong on so many levels. This app gives cyberbullies a home where they feel comfortable and this needs to be stopped.
7. Until this app is deleted, people will continue to be bullied.
We all know if bullies are never stopped, they will never stop on their own. This app might have been a good idea at first, but it has only caused problems for a lot of people. No good can ever come out of this app.
I believe that if Yik Yak is deleted, that a lot of cyberbullying would stop. I know there are a lot of other ways cyberbullying can occur, but Yik Yak is just adding another home for bullies. Yik Yak is where rumors, harassment, threats, and gossip all start. This app should be completely banned/deleted because as I have said before, nothing good could ever come of it.
