For a lot of people, the ideal Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (also maybe Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) night in college involves going to the bar or to a frat party. I'm not saying this is a bad thing; there have been plenty of nights when I've done just that...and enjoyed it. However, lately I've found myself less willing to spend my Friday nights slightly buzzed and standing in a crowded basement of a frat house with people I barely know.
I never thought that would be a problem, and for the most part, it hasn't been. But I've also noticed some of my friends getting annoyed with me for being "boring" and "too focused on school". And yeah, maybe they're somewhat right. College is about learning, but it's also about having fun. But it's also about knowing how much you can handle. When I was a freshman who was taking easy classes and didn't have the sense to worry about grades yet going out was no big deal. Yet, the harder my classes get and the more I have to work to get an A, the less I feel like going out is worth giving up time I could use to study. Like I said though, there's nothing wrong with wanting to go out every weekend. But here are seven reasons why it's also okay to want to stay in.
1. You don't have to get dressed up.
I've decided that going out to parties or to the bar is a lot more effort than it's worth. You have to look good, because you never know who you'll run into. Except by the end of the night you're makeup is sweating off and about 10 people have probably spilled drinks on you. Sweatpants are a much better option.
2. You get to avoid awkward encounters with frat guys.
No, I don't want to come check out your room or your really comfy bed.
3. Netflix.
That's pretty much always my answer for why I can't go out, and if you think it's not good enough we probably can't be friends.
4. You actually look like a sane, normal person when you wake up the next day.
That makeup you said you were going to take off when you got home...yeah, didn't happen. To be fair, you're lucky you made it to your bed at all.
5. You don't have to ask some random sober driver for a ride home when you finally realize it's 2:00 in the morning.
I'm not sure why I ever thought this was a good idea.
6. You're 99% guaranteed to have 0 regrets in the morning.
Unless you do something else you shouldn't have done, but that's on you.
