Right now it is summer. I'm not going to lie, I do love summer. See, I'm the kind of person that is always cold and really enjoys the nice, peaceful, non-school-filled times. Recently though I find myself craving sweaters and pumpkin-scented candles. I long for sweet apple cider, and most of all, eggnog (I love eggnog). So, I have written down some of my favorite aspects of these seasons to deal with my Fall withdrawal.
1. Warm Fashion
Don't we all love sweaters? I mean, they're sweatshirts that made it look like you tried to look decent. Boots of all shapes and sizes, and, one of my favorites, pea coats (which secretly make me feel like a female Sherlock Holms). Also, I love the wonderful colors that seem to die in summer like dark greens and brown.
2. Holidays
In the Fall and Winter there are so many more Holidays! With this we see family, get presents, eat food, and get off school. What more could you ask for?! There are feasts and laughter. You see all your cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. that you only see a few times a year and catch up. Also, you get to wear more sweaters (of the Christmas variety)!
3. The View
Let's face it the changing leaves and snow covered ground are beautiful. There are icicles that reflect the light from sparkling snow in winter, and gold, brown, orange, and red leaves fill the air in autumn. These times are when you look around and appreciate the land around you.
4. School
Now, let me explain this one. In summer there are certain things you miss from the school year. Some are seeing your friends everyday, having events like speech tournaments, plays, concerts, and writing. The last one is weird, I know, but hear me out. I don't mean literary writing, I mean pen in your hand writing. You know when you go practically all summer not picking up a pen, then you write something and you realize you suck at writing. Yeah, school keeps that from happening.
5. Being Warm
I'm not crazy, I promise. You know when it's all snowy and horrible outside and you come in, wrap yourself in a blanket, turn up the furnace, and drink hot chocolate? That's what I'm talking about. Being all cuddled up watching the snow, enjoying the beauty without the cold.
6. TV
During the Fall and Winter there are many Holiday specials. You have Charlie Brown, Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Tangerine Bear, and my favorite, It's a Wonderful Life. These movies have life lessons and so many family memories that the Holidays would never be the same without them. You are never too old or too young. You are always just right to enjoy a good, classic movie.
7. The Food!
There are so many things you get to eat in the Fall and Winter you can't get any other time. Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin roll, Pumpkin seeds (basically anything pumpkin), you also have eggnog, apple cider, soups, and I could go on. This time is the time for food to thrive. With all the holidays we all have our own family food traditions that we enjoy and share. And it's ok, it's a Holiday, you can take one more cookie!
So, while I'm not wishing Summer away, I do miss Fall and Winter. Though they may have their drawbacks (the c...c..cold), they also have so many wonderful things to share.
