Being the youngest sibling may feel like it might has more cons than pros. Like getting hand-me-downs, getting everything last or even feeling restricted because of your age. But that's not entirely true. There is so much that happens where a lot of things are in your favor.
1. The unbelievable amount of attention.
Since you're the youngest, everyone, I mean everyone, wants to know what you're up to. Your family, your parents' co-workers, your neighbors, your garbage man, you name it. Yeah, your older sibling or siblings have been through it all, no one cares about them! It's all you, honey! It's the best watching your siblings get jealous over the amount of attention you're receiving.
2. You can get away with a lot of things.
Even if you spill the milk all over the place, break the DVD player or even crash the car, you're going to be let off with something as small as a warning. Because you're young, your parents are in the mindset that you didn't know any better, even though we obviously do. It's just a matter of time before they catch on.
3. You develop a good lying habit.
Sometimes when you think you can get away with stuff, you can't. That's why lying always comes in handy. Since you're always doing it, it just comes naturally to you. I am not one to condone such a terrible act, but coming from a the youngest child, I have been known to use my power for good.
4. You get to look up to an older sibling.
I know it might not seem like it now, but having an older sibling does have its perks. You get to see how they handle things, you receive and take in a lot of advice, learn from their mistakes and you get to have a second opinion on everything. It's a pretty big deal.
5. You grow into a thicker skin.
If you are the youngest, it's no secret you have been harassed, bullied, picked on and even tormented by your elders. So you're used to it. When someone thinks they're being funny by teasing you or even try to bring you down, you just walk away and laugh. Nothing can get past that set of armor you have built.
6. No one really expects anything out of you...yet.
Because you're not the oldest, no one really expects you to make your mark in the world yet. Your parents are not pressuring or counting on you to make an impression or set an example. But when you finally hit 16, it all goes downhill from there.
7. You get the chill side of your parents.
Your parents have been through it all with your older sibling, so they know how to handle everything in the chillest way possible. They already taught your brother/sister how to ride a bike, drive and even their values. Nothing surprises or scares them anymore, so just do you.
The youngest kid in the family may be cool, but as I said before, there is a lot more to just being an age. You learn so much in a matter of 18 years; it's all a learning process. The best part is you get to experience and master everything with the people who have been through it all. So youngsters, throw your hands up and scream because you're blessed!
