"Supergirl" just wrapped on it's first season, and I think it's absolutely ridiculous that it hasn't been confirmed (yet) for a second. I won't even try to hide my bias. It's like Andrew Kreisberg beamed into my brain and decided to make my dream show — one that I never knew I wanted.
So while the rest of us wait for CBS to get with the program, I'll shamelessly use this platform in order to pontificate on why I love "Supergirl."
1. Lots of DC Favorites
One of the most watched episodes was the cross-over episode with Grant Gustin's Barry Allen/Flash. For hardcore DC fans, it was one of the first glimpses at a TV Justice League to make all our hearts go aflutter. But this isn't the only future member of the Justice League to be featured on the show, and one of the others is a series regular.
But shh... I'd hate to spoil their identity for you!
2. Karolsen is Life
For those of you unfamiliar with Internet 'shipping' culture, Karolsen is the couple name for Kara Danvers (aka Supergirl) and James Olsen (you know, Superman's buddy). Melissa Benoist and Mehcad Brooks have tons of chemistry together and are genuinely caring and generous with each other.
In my opinion, Karolsen has one of the most gentle and happy love stories on TV, but don't worry- there's plenty of angst involved too.
3. Kara + Food = Happy Place
It's a running gag on the show that Kara LOVES all kinds of Earth food and eats as much as possible without repercussions ('cause she's—you know—an alien). Not much to say here except I've never related to a TV character quite on this level before.
4. Even Heroes Have Heroes
There's a lot of great female friendships in this show, but one of my favorite's has to be the mentor relationship Kara has with Cat Grant. She's bossy, quick-witted, and hides a heart of gold under a steely exterior. In other words, serious future boss goals.
5. Feminist Power!
I've heard a people get on this show for being too pushy with the "girl-power" message. I say bring it.
I can't stress enough how great it is to not only have a real honest-to-God female superhero leading a major cable show. When I was a kid and playing in towel-capes, there's nothing I would've loved more than to see someone I could emulate. But it's not just about empowering young girls. "Supergirl" is about protecting people and doing good out of love. That's a message anyone can be proud to live out.
6. It's Always Sunny in National City
This might be hard to explain, but "Supergirl" has such a light and fun tone that I absolutely adore. That's not to say they can't bring emotional depth, but even the darker episodes there are moments that remind the viewer where the heart of the story lies.
For everyone who thinks DC is going to dark in it's movies, here's something that's right up your alley.
7. Ultimate Space Sisters
This is Kara and Alex, the adopted Danvers sisters and unquestionably the heart and soul of "Supergirl." Alex is an exceptionable government agent while Kara's out fighting in tights, and they are always supportive of each other. Sure, they have conflict and bicker like any other siblings.
But when push comes to shove, there's nobody they'd rather fight alongside.
