"Parks and Recreation" is definitely one of the best shows of all time. The humor is always spot on, and even the blooper reels are hysterical. One of the best things to ever come out of the show was my new favorite phrase, "Treat yo self," a phrase coined by characters Donna and Tom. The meaning of "treat yo self" is exactly what it sounds like; go treat yourself by buying or doing something that you really can't afford because we know that in today's world, we seem to only spend money on the necessities. Sometimes, we feel guilty for treating ourselves, so in order to curb the guilt, I've compiled a list of reasons to always "treat yo self."
1. Paying bills sucks
Student loans, phone bills, rent, food ... the list goes on and on. Spend money on yourself and give yourself something nice for once. Eating ramen for two weeks will be worth it, I promise.
2. That thing you've wanted for a while? Probably not going on sale.
That Kate Spade bag won't be on sale anytime soon, and you don't even know if it is really ever going to be on sale, so take it while it's hot and ready to be purchased. Think of how lonely it gets in that smelly warehouse!
3. You work too much
Let's face it: you work all the time. Kick back and spend a little money on going to the spa if you're on your feet all day, or going to the mall and walking to every store because you sit at a desk all day. You need this and you know it.
4. You can't put a price on self-esteem
Whether it's clothes, makeup, shoes or hair products, if it makes you feel better about yourself, by all means ... treat yo self. *this is my most used reason for makeup*
5. Your birthday is coming up
Your birthday is in seven months? That'll come up so quickly! Definitely give yourself a $200 birthday treat! Yay you! Good job surviving (almost) another year in this horrible world where we're made to feel guilty for spending our hard earned money!
6. You got a small bonus that is probably nothing close to the price you're about to pay.
Got a $10 sales bonus from work? Treat yo self to that $50 blouse you've been eyeing for the past week! You wouldn't want it to sell out!
7. You're going to need to buy it eventually anyway
You'll be spending this money eventually, so why not lighten your financial burden later and spend that $100 now. You're truly considering the future here. Go you for being proactive! *this is my second most used reason for makeup*
Note: these are all reasons that I have used to justify spending my money, of which I currently have none, so maybe this isn't the best article if you're a poor college student like me. *Also note the sarcasm throughout*
