Having an older sister is a blessing in disguise. Sure, when she acts like she knows everything and tends to be overly bossy, then she’ll get on your nerves. But she’s one of the few people that has known and loved you for literally your entire life. She’s been by your side through every up and down, holding your hand as you grew up physically and emotionally. She is a role model and a supporter, and in most cases, a best friend. Here are some of the reasons why you should be thankful that you have an older sister:
1. She’s the best wingman (wing-woman)
There’s no better support system than a sister, and that applies when she has your back with guys. From pointing out the hot guys to you or speaking on your behalf when you’re too shy to, she just wants to help you be happy.
2. She gives you the best advice
There’s no one better to talk about issues than someone who’s already dealt with the same stuff before. Chances are, if you’ve experienced it, so has she, and she’s had some time to reflect. She clearly worked through it and I’m sure she can help you do the same. Also, the best advice comes from someone who is willing to be completely honest with you, and sisters are usually brutally honest.
3. She’s not afraid to knock you down
This may not seem like the best part about having an older sister, but it's certainly important. Sometimes, you just need someone to tell it how it is. A sister isn’t afraid to do that, because she knows how to talk to you without tearing you apart or hurting your feelings too much.
4. She’ll do anything for you
It might not always seem like it, but she’ll do anything to keep you safe or to keep you happy. She's learned to operate under mama bear mentality when someone messes with you and will stop at nothing to make sure you’re okay. While she might be the first person to mess with you, they take it seriously when someone else goes after you.
5. You’ll grow old together
Like it or not, your sister is always going to be there for you. You have been given a best friend for life, so don’t take her for granted. Enjoy every moment you have with the person who knows you best.
6. Every moment with her is special
No matter what you’re doing or where you are, her being there makes it special, because she’s everything to you like you are to her.
7. She’s a great role model
She’s been on the earth longer, so obviously she’s going to know more than you. She’s someone that you can always look up to, because in your eyes, she can do nothing wrong. You can always count on her to give you a good example of how to do something.
