Hamilton: An American Musical

The Broadway show "Hamilton" has grown to be a rather popular musical among historians and your average person alike. It is a little over one year old now, and I only just found out about it months ago, but when I did, my life was changed forever. Here are seven reasons why you should love "Hamilton."

1. It is historically accurate for the most part.

Though there are some liberties taken for the sake of story and lyrics, the show remains true to the biography it was based off of, which is written by Ron Chernow. (If you don't believe me, then go read the book for yourself to fact-check the musical).

2. A mastery of rap and hip-hop culture merging with historical content.

I am not a huge fan of rap or hip-hop, however, Lin Manuel-Miranda has put these two things into a way that I enjoy them. These ways being that they tell a story, and they give a history lesson to audiences.

3. The angelic voices of the cast.

If you haven't listened to a recording of the original cast, then you must go do this. Their voices are all rather angelic and soothing to listen to. This alone would sell me on a musical.

4. It tells a good story.

Not only is it pretty much accurate to history, but it tells a good story. There is laughter, there are tears and all in all the lyrics tell a fantastic story. I wish I could speak for the staging, but I have never actually seen it and I can't afford to go see this musical.

5. It's Alexander Hamilton.

Though I don't agree with this guy on everything he had to say about this nation, he is one of my favorite historical figures. That's a lot of praise for the first secretary of treasury of the United States, but seriously, he's a pretty cool guy, and the musical makes him a relatable fellow for people today to look up to and emulate, at least in some areas of life.

6. It has catchy songs.

Now, this might be a bad thing, considering the explicit content of some of the lyrics in some of the songs. But after losing count on how many times I have listened to this musical, I probably have the whole thing memorized. In any event, this musical makes rap and hip-hop catchy and fun to listen to. And for those that enjoy rap and hip-hop, this is even better. The lyrics get stuck in your head, and they never leave. This is fantastic.

7. This musical originally starred Lin Manuel-Miranda.

I don't know about you, but that is enough said. You might not know who he is, except for being in and writing "Hamilton." However, he also guest-starred in two episodes of the TV drama "House" and I watched those episodes with undivided attention. He is a fantastic actor, an extremely talented rapper and a great writer.

Well, there you have it -- seven reasons why you should absolutely adore the musical Hamilton, and why you should go find it and give it a listen as soon as you're done reading this. Happy listening!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
