1. There are tons of free activities
Being in college means being strapped for cash which is why it’s nice that St. Louis is home to countless free activities spread throughout the city. Forest Park is home to the Science Center, Zoo, Art Museum and History Museum and that is only a portion of the city where there are free activities. Heading downtown is also an easy way to find free or cheap activities to take part in.
2. There is no shortage of places to eat
St. Louis is home to hundreds of local restaurants spread throughout the city and the county. Students can head down to the loop, downtown, Tower Grove, St. Charles, Kirkwood or countless other places to find unique local restaurants.
3. There is nature and the city
Being in a city can usually mean that there is nowhere to go out and explore but that’s not the case in St. Louis. There are numerous national and state parks located on the outskirts of St. Louis as well as numerous city parks including Forest Park, the seventh largest urban park in the United States. Castlewood State Park is home to beautiful bluffs that overlook Meramec River and is only a 45-minute drive from downtown St. Louis.
4. St. Louis is the perfect sports city
Home to the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues, St. Louis boasts a pride for their teams that is second to none. The atmosphere on game day can break down even the biggest hater of sports. This is a perfect opportunity for students to get involved in the city and spend quality time with friends and fellow sports’ fans alike.
5. Coffee Shops galore
You can hardly go down any street without finding a Starbucks, Kaldi’s or another local coffee shop. This is a huge perk for college students who often frequent coffee shops. There’s always a new place to explore and new coffee to try while relaxing with friends or working on homework.
6. Concerts always come to STL
With so many venues in the St. Louis area there is always some concert or music event going on during the weekends. Whether it’s seeing Mumford & Sons at Scottrade Center, Needtobreathe at Chaifetz Arena, Tori Kelly at the Pageant or Panic! At the Disco at the Verizon Amphitheatre, there are always new concerts with big name artists or local bands popping up in the St. Louis area.
7. Shopping is available everywhere and for every price range
This can be dangerous for college students who are living on a budget but there is no shortage of finding places to shop. Whether you’re going to the Galleria, West County Center, Chesterfield Mall, Frontenac, Union Station or the outlets in the Chesterfield Valley there is something for everyone.
