Whether you’ve always considered yourself a bargain shopper or you cringe at the thought of wearing a stranger's old clothes, here are seven reasons that shopping at Goodwill makes more sense than ever.
- Everything you can find in a retail store, you can find in Goodwill. You name it, they have it. Need a pair of "boyfriend" jeans? I guarantee Goodwill will have hundreds of baggy, ripped-up jeans. Need a new winter coat? Goodwill has one for you. Need a pillow with an assortment of cats on it? Goodwill definitely has you covered. I think you get my point. Honestly, I could list any item in the world and I'm sure Goodwill has carried it at some point in its beautiful existence.
- Old school fashion is so in style right now. They say fashion repeats itself every 20 years, and that statement has never been truer than right now. Us 90's kids are in heaven right now as we embrace the return of our beloved chokers, jelly sandals, and flannel shirts tied around our waists. Walk into H&M, Urban Outfitters, or Forever21, and you will be greeted with a variety of denim jackets, high-waisted pants, platform shoes, and any throwback, retro look that you can imagine (or find in your mom's old yearbook).
- Better quality. So what if it's 20 years old? The jacket that you picked out at Goodwill will probably be made with higher quality material than anything you can find now at your local retail store. They just don't make things the way they used to.
- Individuality. Shopping at Goodwill gives you the ability to better express your uniqueness. Nobody will have the same look as you if you shop at Goodwill. Forever21 can no longer sabotage your personal style by selling the same look to 20 other girls. I mean, honestly, how many times do you have to show up to an event wearing the exact same thing as someone else to realize that the simple solution to all of your problems is Goodwill.
- IT WILL SAVE YOU SO MUCH MONEY! Yes, we get it, you are a broke college student, how can you even begin to think about shopping? Well, now I have the answer to your problem: Goodwill. A new (well, sort of) pair of shoes for $5.95? Yes please. A dress for formal for only $6.26? Now we're talking. Not only are the prices cheap, but you can get clothes half-priced when the color of the tag matches the color of the week. Oh yeah, and did I mention that Tuesday is student discount day? With all the money you save shopping at Goodwill, you can probably afford to buy that plane ticket for your summer travels (and don't get me started on why you need to go buy one).
- It will boost your confidence. You will look so hot in your clothes from Goodwill and feel even hotter knowing how little you had to pay for them. Plus, when people compliment you, you will smile at your little secret about where you got them. People will literally fawn over your killer leather jacket or multi-color windbreaker. At this point, you can choose to proudly say you got it for $3.95 or make them think you are worth a million bucks (which you are, by the way). Oh, and take that, Urban Outfitters! You can no longer overcharge innocent people $89 for a "Staple Retro Windbreaker Jacket" that you can easily find at Goodwill for $4. Wow, doesn't just knowing that you are no longer under the spell of Urban Outfitters make your confidence level shoot through the roof?
- It's just way more fun. First, you will pregame by listening to Macklemore's "Thrift Shop" en route to the store to help you get in the zone. Once you arrive, you will inevitably jam out some more to the groovy music that is always playing at Goodwill. Along with the constant dancing, the entire shopping experience will feel like a scavenger hunt, and if you're anything like me, you love scavenger hunts so much that your dream birthday party growing up was scavenger hunt-themed. Lastly, while you are hunting throughout the store, you will have the time of your life finding some of the strangest, most bizarre, yet greatest human creations of all time.
