I feel like we are always caught up in schoolwork, and we forget to do things for ourselves. One of the ways we neglect ourselves is by only reading things that are assigned, and not reading for ourselves. Here are 7 reasons why you should make time to read for fun:

1. To explore new places.

Reading can take you to new places far faster and for far less money than an airplane can. You can pick up a book and be in Paris, Rome, or Beijing within seconds.

2. To meet new people.

The people around us can get boring. It's a fact. If you spend all of your time with the same people, you will want to meet new people. Just open a book and you'll be able to meet other people and learn their stories instantly.

3. To become part of something bigger.

When you read a book, you join a new community of people. You remove yourself from your surroundings and you enter an entirely new place. You can become part of a movement of change that helps shape global history as we know it.

4. To expand your knowledge.

I used to only read fiction books because I thought that a non-fiction book would be too boring. However, I recently have become a fan of non-fiction books because I am able to learn about so much in a setting that is a lot more enjoyable than a classroom.

5. To travel through time.

Time travel has been a goal since the beginning of human history. Science is still far away, but you can go back (or forward) in time instantly with a book.

6. To live someone else's life for a while.

When my own life gets boring, I like to try out another person's life for a little bit.

7. To expand your imagination.

When you read a book, your brain works to make the words on the paper transform into images in your head. When you're watching television, your brain does not have to work at all. Reading exercises the mind and makes you smarter.

As a child, I read to explore. As a teenager, I read to escape. As a young adult, I read to find my way home again.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
