7 Reasons to Live at the Retreat at Blacksburg

About 4 seconds after classes begin Freshman year, you are expected to A) have met roommates to live with for the following year and B) find a place to live off campus that is awesome and is approved by the parental unit.

This was once an impossible and stressful task, but not anymore for the lucky students of Virginia Tech. Blacksburg has upped their off-campus housing game with the Retreat at Blacksburg!

So this is for the Freshmen who don’t even realize how quickly they need to make this decision, for the Sophomores who made a poor choice in housing last year, the Juniors and Seniors who want to soak up Blacksburg’s awesomeness before they leave, and the grad students who need all the relaxation they can get because grad school is crazy hard.

Here are the reasons why you should make your life easier and way better and sign with the Retreat at Blacksburg.

1. The Pool. The Retreat pool is the biggest pool in Blacksburg, it's just a fact. It's like a normal pool got bitten by a radioactive spider and became a super pool.

Nothing says end of syllabus week like cannonballing into a gigantic pool with 200 of your closest friends.

2. Indoor Golf Simulator. If you want to be Happy Gilmore you can be.

Just tappppp it in.

3. Starbucks Machine. There is a FREE Starbucks machine in the clubhouse. You press a button and BOOM, you have a beautiful cup of liquid luxury.

I really only need coffee with my oxygen.

4. There is a Sauna. Nothing says positive energy and relaxation like sweating out all your toxins (and last weekends regrets)... #RelaxationStation

I could work out and sweat, but I'm better at just sitting down and sweating.

5. They like Pets! You can have pets at the Retreat... Who doesn't love a sweet little pup or kitty?!

If you don't like small animals, I immediately don't trust you.

6. You get your own bathroom. Everyone gets a private bathroom in their room. This means private shampoo, private toothbrush, private bath mat, private errythang.

Seat up....Seat down....You can take your life into your own hands!

7. Community. It's a giant community. There are cottages instead of apartment complexes, so it's essentially like a giant neighborhood of your friends.

Nothing makes college better than when you have a great place to live and awesome people to share it with.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
