1. They are always there for you.

You just moved off to college and you have to make all new friends. Nerve wracking, right? But what helps you get through it is knowing your friends back home are only a phone call, text or FaceTime away. You can call them any hour of the day and they will be there for you, no matter how big or small the situation is.

2. They know you better than anyone, including yourself.

When you are having a bad day, they know exactly what it is that you need to hear to make things better. They know when you need to just take a deep breath and tell yourself everything is going to be OK. They know exactly what you need in order to feel better.

3. They can tell you the truth without being scared of hurting your feelings.

When you need advice on a situation, they are not scared of being blunt with you. They know when you are about to make a mistake, or do something that you will regret later on. They will tell you the truth but when they do, do not get butthurt. They are simply just trying to look out for you.

4. They will always love you for who you are.

Many people in this world do not get the idea that everyone is different in their own way. But when it comes to the friends that you have spent half your life with, they love you, no matter how weird you are. They accept your goofy personality, your weird habits and all your silly quirks in between.

5. No matter how long it has been since y'all have talked, you can always pick up where y'all left off.

Even if it is just a few hours, days, weeks or even months since y'all have talked, you can pick up right where y'all left off; almost like y'all never missed a beat. You catch up on how they are doing, what they have been doing and even pretending to keep up with all the names of their new friends that they have made.

6. You always have someone to come home to.

When it is time to come home and leave all your school friends, it is comforting to know that you are going home to people who have been with you through all the ugly, awkward and bad phases of your life. You will always have someone to hang out with when you are home, so it makes it a little easier to get your mind off of wanting to be back at school.

7. They will always be your little pieces of home.

No matter the distance between y'all, there will always be those special memories that y'all share and can look back on. Those memories that no one can replace or relive like y'all can. They are those people that will forever hold a special place in your heart that no one could ever replace.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
