I suppose you could call me a cat person. It is not that I dislike dogs, I just prefer to be around cats.
Here are just a few reasons why I prefer cats as my furry snuggle buddies.
1. They are independent.
If I ever want to go on vacation, I can leave my cats home alone for a few days without having to worry about them dying. I think they might even prefer being alone in the house instead of having to deal with pesky humans trying to smother them with attention.
2. They understand that sleep is key.
If all you want to do is spend a day curled up on the couch in front of the fireplace, your cat will be more than willing to spend the whole day right there with you. They understand that sleeping 18 hours a day is not a bad thing, it simply shows dedication.
3. Even when cats are causing trouble they are adorable.
Cats tend to know when they have done something to upset you, and when they do, they will almost immediately come right up to you purring, and rub against your leg to remind you that while you may be mad at them now, it will only last a minute before their cuteness overwhelms you.
4. They understand the balance between work and play.
If you own a cat, you know that 90 percent of the times you try to do anything on your laptop, your cat will be there to lay down right on the keyboard within ten minutes. It might be annoying at the time, but they are just trying to make sure that you don't work too hard and that you have enough time in your day to shower them with affection.
5. Cats are super smart.
You may not be able to teach an old dog new tricks, but you certainly can teach a cat new tricks! I for one taught my cat how to play fetch and hide and go seek. She also knows exactly when I need a good cuddle after a bad day and knows exactly how to cheer me up, and make me feel loved.
6. Cats are super clean.
Considering all they do is sleep and bathe themselves, cats are one of the cleanest pets you can own. Not only do they keep themselves well groomed, but they will even watch out for you and make sure that you are up to their standards of cleanliness.
7. They know how to make you feel loved.
The fact that a cat will love you unconditionally means that once you have earned a cat's love, you know that you have done something right. It may not happen right away, but once a cat has deemed you worthy of their love they will love you for the rest of their life.
The cat vs. dog debate is certainly not anywhere close to being over. And while I prefer cats on a day to day basis, sometimes there is nothing that can beat the blissful happiness of an adorable tail wagging puppy.
