7 Realizations Seniors Have The First Week Of Classes

Where did the time go?

7 Realizations Seniors Have The First Week Of Classes
Anais & Dax

1. We are not scared little freshman anymore.

We’ve been around the block a few times and the first week of classes is a breeze. Chances are you know a bunch of other kids in the class and you’ve had the professor before. Freshman year you would have been sitting in your seat almost sick to your stomach with nerves but now you just hang back, relax and chit chat because you’ve been here a ton of times before.

2. But we still have no idea what we’re doing.

Yes, we’ve been around the block a few times, but let’s be honest, it's a miracle we made it this far and we still have no idea what we're really doing with our lives. We’re only cruelly reminded of this on the daily as everyone starts asking “so what’re your plans for after graduation?” We only have two semesters to ignore our responsibilities so can we please do that in peace?!

3. Naps are (still) a must.

Okay, so we all valiantly tried to resist napping during the first week of school, but that’s kind of the busiest time of the semester and we all know how that goes... And anyway, life’s too short not to nap.

4. We’re so ready to move on.

As you sit and read through your text book, diligently taking notes because your professor assigns weekly quizzes, it hits that in a few months we won’t be doing that anymore. We’re seniors, and that means this is our last year in this place, in these classrooms, doing this work. It’s been fun, but continual sleep-deprivation and never-ending homework is definitely getting old.

5. But wait, we actually have to leave this place?

As you laugh with your friends on the way to class, you realize that pretty soon this won’t be a daily occurrence. After this year, we won’t live within a few minutes of all our closest friends. In fact, we might all be scattered across the country.

6. What do you mean I have to be an adult?

As soon as you realize you actually have to leave your home away from home, you realize what comes next- the real world. No more binge-watching Netflix in the middle of the day. And sadly, no more naps. Once school is out you’ll become a part of the regular 9-5 crew. A regular old boring adult.

7. We might not be ready to let go.

As much as we're ready to be done with the work of college, we're not quite ready to let go. Leaving college means leaving friends and memories. Of course there are great things to come, but I kind of wished I had listened when everyone told me these would be the best years of my life. And I really wish I had listened when they told me that they go by quickly....

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
