The Real Relationship Goals

Often you go online and you see a bed flooded with shopping bags with the caption "relationship goals," or you may see a couple with matching Nikes with the same caption. But are those really what keep a relationship healthy and going? I'm here to tell you that the answer is no, that's not how you can keep a relationship healthy. Here are some real relationship goals to keep your relationship going.

1. Being each other's support.

You have to be there for your significant other when they are down and have nothing, not just when they are on top of the world. You have to help them up and support them through all the downs, not just some. It's about being there for each other through thick and thin.

2. Being best friends.

Your significant other should be someone you can laugh and play around with. Someone you can tell everything to and do anything with. They should be your best friend and someone who will always have your back. They need to be someone you can trust with anything. You need to be able to tell them the same things you tell your best friend.

3. Being faithful.

Your significant other should be the only one you want and the only person you are with. There is no excuse for cheating and to keep a healthy relationship you need to be honest with yourself and make sure you only want to be with them.

4. Sharing the same values.

Your significant other and yourself need to share not all, but a lot of the same values. Opposites may attract, but the more serious you get the more you will realize you can't happily be with someone who doesn't have the same morals and values.

5. Have faith in each other.

You have to trust your significant other. It's hard to keep a relationship healthy and going with doubts and fears. Especially, if you do not vocalize these fears and improve your trust. It's all about trust.

6. Spoil each other.

Not with material things, with love and affection. Leave them notes, send a cute text, tag them in a video you know they will love. Let them know you are thinking about them and make sure they know you love them. Materials don't make a relationship, it's love and care that make a relationship.

7. Love each other wholeheartedly.

You can't love someone half way, you can't love them only sometimes. Yes, relationships are frustrating and there are some tears, but in the end you always have to love them with your whole heart for it to work. You can't half do it, just love with all your heart.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
