Scotland experiences a lot of rain, which means in a college town like St Andrews, there is an abundance of activities to keep you busy when it is raining outside.
1. Northpoint Café
The famous spot where Princess Kate met Prince William…for coffee. This coffee shop nestled in a corner on North Street is a great getaway place for when it is raining outside. Along with great coffee, there is an excellent coffee shop vibe that is great for studying and producing your best work.
2. Byre Theatre
If you’re looking for a low-key night out the Byre Theatre is a great venue with many events taking place throughout the week. The highlight of the week, however, is jazz night on Thursdays. Gather your friends and come relax while listening to some fine jazz, and enjoy warm company inside the cozy Byre Theatre.
3. The library
It gets the job done.
4. Movie theatre
Although there are only a few select films playing at a time, a movie at the New Picture House can be a great escape from the rain and from your studies.
5. MUSA
If you’re keen on learning the history of St Andrews, the Museum of St Andrews is a great place to learn about our beloved town. The museum includes a comprehensive history of all of our favourite traditions and provides overviews of famous alumni.
6. The gym
Although the gym is a hike for some, the gym can be a great escape from the rain, and is a great way to get your exercise in during a day where motivation is hard to find!
7. Take a trip to Edinburgh
It may be raining at St Andrew's, but don’t let that stop you from taking a day trip to Edinburgh where there is a small chance that it may not be raining there! Get some shopping in, visit the museums, and visit the castle during the day, and enjoy the wild nightlife when the sun goes down (around 3 p.m.).
