7 Places I Can't Wait To Go Over Fall Break: Monmouth County

1. Rook

Unique to Monmouth County, Rook is an independent coffee shop that serves an amazing cup of coffee. On campus you have the option of Starbucks or the Kurig in your dorm, but nothing beats a fresh cup of coffee from a small local coffeeshop and I can't wait to snuggle up with my Rook coffee and a good book while i'm home.

2. Turning point

Another one of my favorite eateries in Monmouth County, Turning Point has the most amazing brunch and a really cozy atmosphere. I can’t wait to go with my friends over break and enjoy my favorite brunch food and a chai latte.

3. My friends' houses

My friends' homes are like my own in a lot of cases and I miss them, their pets and their families almost as much as my own! I can't wait to hang out with my "other families" while i'm home for a short while.

4. The beach

Growing up near the beach, it’s hard going to school hours away from the coast. Though it may sound strange the beach is my favorite in the fall, it’s quiet, serene and there are no bennies!

5. Red Bank

A quaint yet bustling town, Red Bank feels like home after 4 years of high school in the town and I can’t wait to walk around town with my hometown friends again. The shopping, food and waterfront parks are just some of the great things about Red Bank.

6. My fave bagel and pizza place

Being from NJ, I miss good, quality pizza and bagels so much when at school out of state. If you've never had an NJ or NY bagel and slice of pizza you don't know what you're missing!

7. Home

I miss my house and family. Being away from home is not always hard but I do miss my bed, my cat and seeing my family daily. I also miss the home cooked meals and non-stressful atmosphere. So out of all these places I miss, I miss my home the most and can't wait to spend a week there.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
