Anyone who knows me knows my absolute love for Coldplay. So, in honor of Coldplay's 2016 "A Head Full of Dreams" world tour and their recent announcement to add more U.S. shows, a list comprising of some of the band's greatest live performances only seemed fitting. These performances are beyond impressive and only add to my excitement for their tour.
1. "Charlie Brown" - Paris (2012)
During the band's 2012 "Mylo Xyloto" tour, Coldplay introduced the Xyloband to their audiences, creating a display of vibrant light effects within the crowd. The Xylobands added to the excitement of "Charlie Brown's" up-beat sound.
I'm thrilled to hear Coldplay has brought back the Xylobands for their 2016 tour and I will definitely be waving mine high when I see them this summer.
2. "Daylight" - Germany (2003)
Definitely one of the band's lesser known songs from its second studio album, "A Rush of Blood to the Head." But none the less an amazing performance and an amazing song.
3. "Bittersweet Symphony" - Live 8 (2005)
Now although this may not be one of Coldplay's own songs, this performance of The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" featuring lead singer Richard Ashcroft is phenomenal. Certainly a historic display of English alternative rock at its finest.
4. "Yellow" - Glastonbury Festival (2002)
If you don't love Coldplay's "Yellow," you are lying to yourself. It was one of the band's first songs to put them on the radar and has remained one of their best. Also, can we take a moment to recognize how great it would be to see Coldplay at Glastonbury? What an incredible crowd.
5. "Viva la Vida" - (2012)
What can I say? Chris Martin's solo piano start while the crowd joins in with the chant is enough to make anyone believe in a higher being. "Viva la Vida" is a musical masterpiece from beginning to end.
6. "Trouble" - Bizarre Festival (2000)
No special effects and a rather sparse crowd was the setting for this early performance. Chris is even sitting on an amp with his piano propped up on some road cases. It is humbling to see how far they have come and are how genuine they still are.
A 2003 performance is done just as beautifully with a full house to sing along.
7. "What A Wonderful World/Fix You" - Glastonbury Festival (2011)
This performance is a prime example of Coldplay's appeal to crowds. Mixing the classic Louis Armstrong song with their contemporary hit makes for a simply marvelous performance.
