Parks and Recreation is one of the greatest shows that has ever graced the television screens. It has been my most recent Netflix binge and I still need time to recover after just finishing the series. Here are just a few of the life lessonsLeslie Knope, Ron Swanson, and the whole Parks crew had to offer through seven hilarious and emotional seasons:

1. Learn from your mistakes

We all know the story about how a certain someone (who later becomes the husband of Leslie Knope) messed up big time as an 18-year-old mayor. Yes, even after Ice Town and all, Ben didn’t spend his life as a “Human Disaster” dwelling on his mistakes. He is able learn from them, which opens some amazing doors in his life. Remember- the past is in the past.

2. Have confidence in yourself

Look at Tom and Donna- their confidence beams wherever they go. It may take time, but don’t be afraid to love yourself. Strut your stuff and show the world what you got as the “beautiful tropical fish” you are!

3. Do what makes you happy

Andy is a perfect example of someone who doesn’t care what others think about him. He does what makes him happy and it causes him to be truly content with his life. So if making scrapbooks or pretending to be Bert Macklin, F.B.I. is what you get joy out of, forget what others think and go do it.

4. Put friends first

Leslie always strives to put her friends first, even before relationships and work. If one of her friends is going through a hard time, you can guarantee that she is right there by their side. Whether it is by celebrating Galentine’s day, making gifts, or waking up Ann with very late night calls, Leslie always lets her friends know how thankful she is for them.

5. TREAT YO SELF

In one of my favorite episode of the series, Tom and Donna introduce us to the art of “Treat Yo Self”, as we follow along on their day dedicated to focusing on themselves. Even though life can get busy, make sure to make time for yourself, and know that it’s okay to splurge on those fragrances, massages, and fine leather goods every once in a while.

6. Never, ever give up

It may take six seasons for Leslie to turn the "pit" into a park, but one thing she never does is give up. After all Leslie goes through, including being recalled from city council, she is always able to pick herself up and keep going. Over time, this allows for bigger and better things to come her way.

7. And always remember that breakfast food is the best food

Ron pretty much explains this one. Why would anyone eat anything besides breakfast food?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
