For most students, finals are coming and they are coming soon. That means one thing: procrastination. We all know there's no better way to procrastinate than by binge watching Netflix. So pop the popcorn, fluff the pillows and grab your charger because Netflix is hot with some great things right in time for finals week.
1. "Once I Was A Beehive"
I watched this movie the other night and I actually cried. OK, so that's not hard for me during a movie. What was really great is after the movie caused me to cry, the movie caused me to laugh. I I love movies that do that.
Synopsis: Lane has to spend time with her new aunt and quirky cousin. That means going on an all-girl camping trip with girls she's never met.
2. "Heartland"
This show comes to us from the great land of Canada. It's no girls in terms of drama. In fact, it could almost air on Disney. But you'll fall in love with the characters and their horses. Besides, who doesn't love a good horse show?
Synopsis: After their mother dies, sisters Amy and Lou take over the family horse ranch with their grandfather.
3. "Charlie St. Cloud"
This movie is another tear-jerker and it has Zac Efron as the main character with a lovely appearance by Dave Franco. It's a "Notebook"-like movie where you just wanna curl up with the main character chocolate ice cream and realize maybe finals aren't so bad.
Synopsis: Charlie used to be a sailor like much of his east-coast town, but he gave it up when his brother died. Now he must choose between his promise or the girl he loves.
4. "Lie to Me"
AKA my latest binge-watching series. I wanted another show like "Bones" and I totally got it. I love quirky protagonists who solve murders with odd skills. Total plus: the main character has a British accent.
Synopsis: Cal owns a firm that can tell if you're lying. His team gets hired by many people to investigate kidnappings, murders and other schemes. Not only can he tell you're lying, but he'll tell you he knows.
5. "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants"
My fondest memory of this movie was forgetting how sad it got and crying at work one day. Every girl should be able to relate a part of herself to somebody in this movie. A plus, this is the only movie based on a series of books; so after you fall in love with the characters you can go read more.
Synopsis: Four different teen girls, but best friends. Summer will take them far apart for the first time, but a pair of pants will keep them together. All four girls have completely different summers but need each other more than ever.
6. "House of Cards"
My inner filmmaking self-decided to fall in love with the breaking of the fourth wall in this show and my inner political self-decided to stay. The drama of this show alone is enough to draw anyone in and not let them move for a few days.
Synopsis: Frank Underwood is the House majority whip for the Democrats, but he wants more than that. With his wife, Claire, they'll stop at nothing to get what they want. #Underwood2016
7. "Short Term 12"
Anybody who knows me knows that this is my favorite movie. This independent movie will tug at those heart strings. The writing of the dialogue with so many quote-able moments will make every writer wish they wrote this. Plus, it's Brie Larson before "Room," and John Gallagher, Jr. before "Hush."
Synopsis: The movie takes place in a group facility for teens. Grace and Mason work together and live together, but Grace can't seem to open up to Mason. Grace then bonds with new resident Jayden over their common difficulties.
So study on fellow students, but when you need that well-earned break, load up the Netflix and kick back for a few gems!
