Remember the time when we dreaded the end of summer because classes were about to start?
After seven weeks, we survived most especially midterms week.
I saw students counting down to fall break during Week 3. Now that time has come. It’s finally Fall Break at University of Portland! If you’re staying in Portland, OR and thinking to yourself, "what’s there to do," I decided to compile a fun yet productive list to help you enjoy Fall Break.
1. Do some homework.
I know it’s hard, but many of us have to catch up on some homework or even worse, study for more midterms! Use your time wisely during break. Although I know it’s too tempting to procrastinate, doing your homework now rather than later will help you when classes start again.
2. Binge-watch some Netflix.
Oh, I know you’ve been very sneaky with watching some episodes since classes started. You might also have blamed Netflix for distracting you. I know I have. Well, now is the time to catch up or continue binge-watching your favorite shows. Just remember to not overdo it. Be productive!
3. Road Trip to Seattle and/or Vancouver, BC.
If you have a car, invite some friends who are staying in town for the break and do a road trip to Seattle or Vancouver, Canada! Renting a car could also be an option. I know my friends and I are going to Canada for half of Fall Break. It’s a good breather and reward to yourself after a very rough seven weeks.
4. Catch up on sleep.
As a college student, I personally get 0-5 hours of sleep throughout the school year. It’s super unhealthy, but sometimes I have to in order to get some homework or studying done, especially if I have to go to work. During Fall Break, you can sleep in all you want. I know I am.
5. Ride the bus and explore Downtown.
It’s kind of difficult with the current weather right now. However, if the weather permits, be an adventurer! Learn how to ride the bus by yourself or with a friend, if you haven’t already. Explore Downtown Portland, NW 23rd Street, Alberta Street, St. John’s, or Hawthorne Blvd. If you get lost, don’t be afraid to ask people, especially the bus driver.
6. Clean your room.
After seven weeks of busy work, you finally have time to clean your room. There’s no excuse to that. I know my room is super messy right now. You can maybe move things around or figure out some new decorations for your room.
7. Go get some groceries and cook!
Grocery shopping is fun! Discover some new interesting recipes online and learn how to cook, if you haven’t already. As a college student, you should know how to cook by now. Not only will it save you a lot of money, but you also get to explore the art of cooking.
At the end of the day, it’s your decision that matters. Whatever it is you desire, go for it! Don’t forget to relax and have fun. Take a breather. Download some new music!
Happy Fall Break Pilots!
