7 Fall Cocktails That Will Pumpkin Spice Up Your Life

For the moments that require something stronger than a latte (also known as every waking moment of 2020)

To avoid ruminating on turning 21 during a global pandemic, I sought out the best fall cocktail recipes the internet has to offer. From basic to bizarre, here's what I came up with.

Spiked Hot Apple Cider

Just because tailgating is canceled this year, doesn't mean tailgating drinks are canceled. I learned this recipe from my dad, the true tailgating king.

Ingredients:

8 oz hot apple cider

2 oz Myers's Dark Rum

1 cinnamon stick (if you're bad)

Apple Cider Mimosas

Try this Tik Tok Famous cocktail that combines all of the sparkly, apple-flavored warmth that fall needs. There are multiple variations of this recipe, but this one from Well Plated takes the cake. Make sure to add the champagne last, and enjoy!

Ingredients:

2 oz brandy or dark rum

4 oz cold apple cider

8 oz chilled champagne or prosecco

Add apple slices for garnish

Pumpkin Beer Cocktail

Beer cocktails are highly underrated and make a great, inexpensive drink to share (safely) with friends. Check out this drinkable pumpkin pie from Jelly Toast Blog.

Ingredients:

1 bottle/can of chilled pumpkin beer (try Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale or Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Wheat)

1/2 oz cinnamon schnapps

1 oz vanilla vodka

Fall Sangria

Sangria slaps any day, any time, and any season. This recipe from A Couple Cooks combines all of the best fall flavors. Just muddle the sugar with fruit, finely sliced, and stir to combine!

Ingredients:

1 Apple

1 Pear

1/2 Orange

2 tablespoons sugar (use brown sugar for a more warm, caramelly flavor)

1 bottle dry red wine

1 bottle of apple cider (sparkling if you're feeling frisky)

Moscow Mule

The Moscow mule is an undeniable classic that tastes great regardless of the season, but ginger is an under-appreciated fall spice that needs some love. Not to mention, these babies are so easy to make, you really can't screw them up. Just pour over ice, stir, and garnish with a slice of lime or sprig of mint.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup ginger beer

2 oz vodka

1 oz lime juice

Cinnamon Maple Whiskey Sour

Nothing says fall like cinnamon, maple, and bourbon. This four-ingredient whiskey sour from Cookie and Kate has big dad energy and would pair well with the Best of Frank Sinatra on CD.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz bourbon

1 oz lemon juice

2-4 tablespoons maple syrup (add to taste)

Pinch of ground cinnamon (add to taste)

Kahlua Hot Chocolate

Hot chocolate is wonderful on its own, but boozy hot chocolate is genius. Another tailgate favorite, Kahlua hot chocolate will add a little extra warmth to any fall day and is insanely easy to make. Make your own hot chocolate with this Damn Delicious recipe, or use your favorite store-bought cocoa mix. Don't forget to top it with some whipped cream or mini marshmallows.

Ingredients:

1-2 oz Kahlua coffee liquor

1 pack cocoa mix (if you don't have time for the homemade recipe)

8 oz milk or water

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

pinch of nutmeg

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
