Facts To Read About Me If You Need A Laugh

Sometimes all it takes is knowing someone else has weird habits to make you feel better about yourself.

Facts To Read About Me If You Need A Laugh

When you’re writing an article once a week, thinking of an original topic is sometimes impossible. Writing something that has been done thousands of times is just as draining as reading it, and current events are tragic enough without subjecting everyone to my personal opinions on the matter, so, this week especially, I was completely at a loss. Luckily, I came across another article that shared my specific problem, and went so far as to give some ideas (thank you Alexa!). With everything happening this week-from the hate crime in Orlando to a poor child’s tragic death in Disney, I think everyone could use a laugh. Enter - my weird, nerdy and incredibly extensive list of things I do, enjoy, find interesting or make me laugh.

1. I think space is really cool.

Don’t even get me started. Everything about space fascinates me— the possibility of life on other planets, time as a non-linear concept that is completely relative, what it even is and why we are here. I can - and sometimes do— spend hours reading articles on new technology developed, new planets discovered, and I am only a little bit ashamed to admit that I looked up the qualifications necessary to become an astronaut.

2. I love history.

Considering I am minoring in the topic, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that I love history. My friends can vouch for me when I say that I am guilty of telling people facts or bits of information that aren’t really interesting to anyone else, or that that the History Channel is one of my most frequented channels. If you wanna talk the rise of the Hitler regime, the Revolutionary War and the historical significance of Boston (part of what makes it my favorite city), you’ve come to the right place. (Also the picture is from the funniest commercial I have ever come across, watch it if you love yourself).

3. I always have and always will, love memes.

The running chicken, Mr. Krabs being surrounded and this vine of a squirrel flying in a plane with Evanescence playing in the background are some of my personal favorites. I don’t even know how to defend myself here.

4. My personality is very dad-like.

I’ve pretty much beat this one to death, but there is no way I can make a list of things I do/am and ignore my incredible dad-like qualities. Music, dancing, comments, jokes— I’ve got ‘em all.

5. I automatically shorten everyone’s name.

It doesn’t matter if I met you less than five minutes ago, chances are I will be calling you a shortened version of your name for the rest of time. The only time I ever really use full, given names are if I’m angry or upset so keep that in mind.

6. I’m a news junkie.

I like to be kept up to date on everything that is happening, both at home and around the world, and I love to talk about it.

7. I love to debate.

Going kind of hand in hand with the previous one, I love to have heated discussions about anything-about politics, about which sitcom was the best of all-time, whether showering at night or in the morning is better. If it’s backed up with facts and said intelligently, I would completely respect your opinion even if I disagree.

8. I make jokes and laugh in response to awkward situations.

This one can get me into trouble.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
