7 Days of Happiness

We often tend to look at all the bad things going on instead of appreciating all the good we have.

7 Days of Happiness
Nicole Llorens

This week I decided that I'm going to do something a little different. Last week I went on vacation and everyday I picked something that made me happy and took a picture of it. The trip alone was great, but I feel like there’s so many times that we look at the negatives in life instead of looking at all the great things around us. Well let's try and change that. So here’s my 7 days of happiness:

Day 1:

After a long 17 hour drive to Natchitoches, Louisiana, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot to be happy about. However when my family & I got into Louisiana around 11:30 at night, gumbo was waiting on us and that makes for a happy night. (If you ever had my grandma’s gumbo, you’d know why it made me so happy!) Plus, I got to see my grandma and that was pretty great too!

Day 2:

On this day, my family and I took a visit to front street which is basically downtown Natchitoches. A lot of stores were closed because it was Sunday, but we still got to see some stuff and hang out. Also, I got to get this picture so there’s that.

Day 3:

We had a little get together at my grandma’s for dinner and I got to get to know my cousins! Normally, we just are friendly with each other, but this time we actually talked and laughed together. They're funny, sweet, and amazing people and it was nice getting to know them.

Day 4:

My cousin FJ from Louisiana and his family live in a house that was built by slaves and they gave my family a tour. The house is said to be built in 1818 so it’s basically 200 years old. It’s always interesting to learn new things about history, but it was even more interesting to actually see something from history.

Day 5:

My cousin FJ took my sister, my dad, and I on a four wheeler and we got to go to the backwoods and experience country living. It was different especially for a city girl like me, but it was also nice to see and hear about some of the everyday things they do in the country.

Day 6:

My mom, dad, sister, grandma, great aunt, and I went out to eat for our last day in Louisiana and to celebrate getting some things done with grandma’s new house. The food and the company were pretty great.

Day 7:

I didn't take a picture today because I was in a car traveling 17 hours back home and I looked rough so I'm just using a picture of me smiling. (It's from the trip so it can count right?) But today's happiness was that I decided to take a risk and I'm hoping everything works out or if anything, at least I can say I tried.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
