With finals quickly approaching, the stress levels of SMU students have increased significantly. Everyone is currently finishing up final projects and papers, but will soon be spending even more hours in the library to prepare for their exams.

To stay sane during this stressful week, we must take study breaks. Some people decide to go out, others take naps, and students like me will go out to eat. Dining hall food becomes repetitive and sometimes you just deserve a treat after completing a nine-hour study session or finishing an impossible exam. Here are seven of the best dessert places in Dallas to treat yourself to during this week.

1. Emporium Pies

Located in the Bishop Arts District in an adorable little cottage, this will be hands down one of the best pies that you will ever taste. Their menu changes seasonally and each pie is handmade daily. Go get a hot cup of coffee and a delicious piece of pie for a mid-afternoon study break.

2. JD's Chippery

This small cookie shop offers a variety of cookies and muffins. Baked fresh every day, it is not surprising that their cookies are highly rated by Dallas newspapers and magazines consistently. Run across the street to JD's (located on Hillcrest) after finishing an exam in Dallas Hall or Umphrey Lee. You deserve it.

3. Pokey O's

This is an SMU favorite. Located right on Mockingbird, it is common to see this place full of SMU students and families on a Friday or Saturday night. Their signature cookie sandwich, where you can make your own combination of cookies and ice cream, can be messy to eat, but it is totally worth it.

4. Steel City Pops

This is the perfect way to cool off on a hot spring day in Dallas. You can have fruity, creamy, or cookie pops in a variety of flavors. It is an amazing after-dinner treat. It is located in Lower Greenville, which is also a great place to walk around and explore.

5. Creme de la Cookie

Are you in the mood for macarons, cake balls, or both? These are just a couple of the more popular menu options at Créme de la Cookie in Snider Plaza. Stop by here if you want a small treat after studying all afternoon or if you want to surprise your roommate with a box.

6. Sprinkles

This is by far one of the most popular places to go for dessert in Dallas. The line is often out the door and it is easy to see why. Sprinkles is known for their delicious cupcakes, but you can also get ice cream or cookies at this location too. Calories don't count during finals week, so you should opt for a Sprinkles Sundae, which is a scoop of ice cream between a cupcake top or bottom.

7. Val's Cheesecakes

Val’s is a unique dessert shop in Dallas. It is a small shack where you order at the window, but the best part is that each cheesecake is served in a mason jar that you get to keep! It is just the right amount of dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth after a long night in the library.

It's going to be a long week of studying and there's no better brain food than dessert, right?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
