There's a negative stigma around video games especially with 18+ gamers devoted to enjoying a Friday night of hardcore zombie hunting. Let's bust both of them in one and take some advice from a 69-year-old motorcycle roaring woman who is much more than someone not to mess with in video games. Let's meet her!
- 69 years old
- Works as a paramedic (31 years) working nights
- Outdoor fun includes riding a motorycle
- Indoor fun includes playing video games
- Has raised 4 sons who are all gamers (1 of whom works in the gaming industry)
- Sons got her into gaming 7 years ago
- Gaming is her main socialization and relaxation time
- Introvert
- Uses Skype or PS party to talk to her sons while playing
- Plays PC games and PS4 games
- Asked for a PS4 VR setup for her upcoming birthday
- Doesn't feel old
- Avid reader
- Claims good eye coordination, strategy and fun comes from video games
- Owns a gaming computer she is building herself (finds it fun to buy the components and learn how to build it)
- Been studying for her A+ for hobby purposes
- Wishes game companies would target "older folks for gaming"
- Believes the stigma of the age in video games is due to a "cultural and generational thing that just needs to be broken"
- Inspired by "older folks still working and even going back to school'
- Doesn't have enough energy as she used to but believes "social security is not enough...gotta make those bucks'
- Advises younger generations to "see older people portrayed as geeks and not just brainy teens...we can do it!'
- . I've been studying for my A+ though probably just for my own hobby purposes.Everywhere u look even we "grannies" have been waiting to see game companies target older folks for gaming. I think it's a cultural and generational thing that just needs to be broken. Also, lots of older folks out there are still working and even going back to school. Older people not only have more energy than past older generations but we've all realized that social security is not enough. Gotta make those bucks! Be nice to see older people portrayed as geeks and not just brainy teens. We can do it.
- Believes gaming for introverts "in general...learn[ing] how to game...kicking alien or enemy butt in general gives a big boost to the old psyche."
- What she believes is keeping older generations from gaming is. "a lack of peers to teach and encurage"
- Agrees learning to play can "be very daunting if you've not been exposed" and everyone needs help starting out
- Believes video game stores giving gaming classes to older people would be a huge favor to the company
- Wishes they "had some older sales people they wouldn't hesitate to approach" in gaming companies
