2016 was a year for the books. With all the bad, there was some good that came out of it. For me personally, 2016 was the year I learned to start loving myself and I am so thankful for that. Going into 2017 I am very positive and anxious to see what this year is going to bring me. Here are a list of some things I think everyone, including myself should try to do this year.

1. Do something crazy

Go skydiving. Go swimming with sharks. Go out and live your life because you are only young once. Jumping out of a plane 14,000 feet in the air was the most exhilarating thing I have ever done and I recommend everyone do it at least once in their life.

2. Love yourself

If you do not love yourself, then who will? Start taking care of you. Eating healthy and exercising daily will make you feel better. Bottling up emotions will lead to a lot of unhealthy behavior. Make sure you have a friend or a family member to talk to.

3. Travel

Exploring will help you find yourself. Exploring will help you meet new people and help discover different secrets in the world.

4. Adopt a pet

Adopt; do not shop. Pets always need saving and if you want a companion, then a pet is the way to go. The only thing I can say is if you do not have time to take care of a pet, please do not be that person that adopts a dog and then returns them.

5. Appreciate your loved ones

The people around you right now are shaping your life in so many ways and you do not even know it. Your family and friends are the people that you have to cleave to in times of need and even when you do not need them. Love them now while you can.

6. Let go

There was a lot of bad blood in the past year. That does not mean this year has to be the same. Go into this year with a new attitude. Be more positive and always think on the bright side of things. Think about other people more this year. Laugh louder and love harder.

Go into this year with a new perspective. You can say you do not need to change anything about yourself but no person is perfect. I am not saying that you have to change everything about your life but everyone can make themselves better in some way. Why not start doing it right now?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
