Alas, it is everyone's favorite time of year: finals. As you continue your last-minute studying for your finals, odds are you have been procrastinating for a little bit. However, there are people who actually are hard workers and have not procrastinated yet. In case you are one of these people, I have some ideas on how you can also join in on the
procrastination fun. 1. Starting a new TV show
Why not get caught up on that show all your friends want to talk about? Or watch a show that is related to your major (sort of)? If you're a science major, go watch "Breaking Bad." Trying to learn political science? Why not watch "House of Cards" or "Scandal?" Studying for criminal justice? Go watch "Law and Order," "How To Get Away With Murder," "Sherlock," "Flashpoint," or plenty of other lawyer/cop shows on Netflix. Odds are you can find something to watch on there.
2. Using the Internet for anything
You've probably gone on YouTube looking for help with learning about some topic you don't understand too clearly. However, you can use the Internet for entertainment as well. Go refresh Facebook for five minutes straight. Odds are you can find some new interesting drama, or at least a BuzzFeed article to get sucked into.
3. Food
When you go to take a break, you probably do take one so you can get food or drink. But, you can turn this into a procrastination technique as well! Spend time deciding exactly what kind of food you want. Do you want a sandwich, chips, fruit, cookies, what? Take the time to make sure you get exactly the amount of food you want and exactly what you desire. Your paper can wait.
4. Sleep
Obviously you're still a young adult. You need to make sure you stay healthy by getting a proper amount of sleep. Feel yourself dozing off? Go take a 10-minute nap! Do not fret if that nap turns into a three-hour one. Just enjoy the sleep.
5. Showering![]()
Have you showered yet today? Do you think you're a bit sweaty or need to shave? Go take a nice hot shower. Take your time washing your body and hair. Work on your shower voice for a little! Take a nice 30 minutes contemplating the meaning of life and having those ridiculous shower thoughts. That textbook will be there all day.
6. Cleaning every surface and reorganizing everything
And all of a sudden, every messy thing in your head becomes a problem and you actually want to clean for once. Oh, your closet isn't organized by fabric type? You have to fix that! Didn't intensely wash your dishes from last night? There's no doubt you have to spend a good 45 minutes making sure every crumb and liquid drop is off that one plate. Hope your neighbors don't mind you vacuuming at two in the morning!
Eventually though, your fear finally forces you to study, but odds are it no longer is productive studying because you feel bad about the amount of time you wasted doing everything else that did not have to be done. Yay for finals!
Godspeed to you, especially if you are a procrastinator like me.
