In today's world, it's easy to let our days go by without really tuning into our emotions. Between work, school, hobbies, family and friends, it is easy to fall into a mind numbing-routine. Sometimes we forget to pay attention to how we feel day to day, and our emotions end up being placed on the back burner. Instead of allowing yourself to simply go through the motions, try to make moments in your everyday life where you focus on yourself and how you feel. Just a few minutes can greatly improve your outlook on life. Here are six simple things you can do that will help you live a happier life every day.
1. Spend 20 Minutes In Nature
Put down the phone. Take out your earphones. Go for a walk or a hike or a bike ride out on your favorite trail. Try out a new trail. Go fishing at a nearby lake, or search for interesting rocks near the river. Try to focus on deeply breathing in the fresh air. Feel the wind on your face and neck. Just 20 minutes of time spent in nature will refresh your body and your mind.
2. Write (Or Draw) In A Journal
You can write about your day or you can write a creative story. You can vent about something that's really been bothering you, or you can draw a colorful sketch. Keeping a journal, and writing in it daily, allows you to freely express yourself. It gives you an outlet to create while keeping your creations completely private.
3. Make Your Bed
As simple as it may seem, making your bed every morning can have a huge impact on your mood. Having a made bed can inspire you to be productive in the rest of your day, and we all could use a little productivity booster.
4. Put On Your Favorite Song
And dance along! For as long as the song lasts, lose yourself in the rhythm and movement of your own body. Don't worry about how silly you look, just let go.
5. Stretch
Take 5 minutes at any point in your day and stretch. Stretch your arms, your legs, your core, and your neck. Try to hold your stretch to the point of tension for at least 30 seconds, and then repeat. Afterwards, you'll feel more relaxed and refreshed.
6. Tell Someone That You Love Them
Tell your best friend, your mom, your significant other, or anyone you feel like telling those words to! Telling someone you loves them not only makes the other person feel good, but it makes you feel good as well.
Taking time everyday to make sure you feel happy is extremely important. Focusing on improving your happiness will improve your overall quality of life. You deserve to live everyday of your life feeling the best that you possibly can.
