With summer coming, our thoughts start to turn towards being out in the sun and wearing shorts (and looking good in them, or as good as we can rushing into the final weeks before summer.) Then we realize that we may have picked up some habits that are definitely not the healthiest. Here are some awesome tips to feel better through the stress coming at the end of the school year and to become healthier.
1. Drink more water
Put down the Starbucks and grab a bottle of water. If you just can't imagine drinking plain water, consider adding fruit to it. Good options include strawberries, blueberries, lemons, oranges, raspberries, cucumber, and mint. Just choose what you would like and you can create a delicious combination to carry to classes.
2. Get some exercise
It can be as simple as walking to class instead of driving. You can take a study break and play Frisbee in the quad with some friends. Maybe even go for a run with a friend or take a hike. Taking some time to go outside and working your body will help to relieve stress.
3. Add a fruit and vegetable to every meal
Having a meal plan can make it seem that you are stuck eating the same fried food every single day. By adding some fruit and vegetables to your plate, you are adding some nutritional value which will help you to feel better.
4. Wake up earlier and at the same time
College makes it seem as though it is impossible to wake up early. But by setting your alarm earlier a little bit at a time you will begin to start your day earlier and you can get more done. When you wake up around the same time everyday, your body will be able to adjust and you won't feel as tired. This will help to take away some unneeded stress.
5. Be aware of how much you are eating and of what
Moderation is key. If you have a buffet-style cafeteria, then the freshmen-15 can become a very real thing. Stress can also make it easy to add on weight because your body feels like it is in distress and will keep what you put in on your body.
6. Cut back time spent on social media
As the spring semester is coming to a close, it will soon be time to head home. Your friends will not be right down the hall from you so get off Instagram and spend time with them. Social media impedes on the time you could spend getting your work done and also being with your friends is a lot more fun.
All of these things and more are great ways to be both mentally and physically healthy for summer. So remember, do these things, and get ready to have an amazing summer!
