With July coming to a close and fall semester quickly approaching, the last minute push to end summer break with a bang is desperately needed. Classes, jobs and organization duties will soon be the focal point for many of us college students and the summer break countdown will be refreshed. To end the summer on a great note, here are just a few upcoming or ongoing events in the 614 that will surely be worth checking out!

The Ohio State Fair – July 27 to August 7

The Ohio State Fair is one of the largest State fairs in the USA. With that type of credential, how could you not check it out? There are plenty of concerts and events that will be held every day this year and the FOOD (most important part) will be greasy, sugary and will definitely clog an artery or two. Check out special discounts for tickets on line and the list of awesome events each day!

Sounds On The Town Concert Series – Now to August 31

On Wednesday nights from 6-9, Easton Town Center features a mix of local, regional and even national performances. How great does doing a little shopping and listening to live music sound? Take full advantage of FREE shows for your enjoyment.

JazZoo! – Now to August 12

Every Friday the Zoo transforms itself from a place of screaming children and roaming animals to a music-filled space with a nice ambiance to match. With the Columbus Jazz Orchestra providing the tunes, it’s been pretty popular so far this summer. Grab your significant other/friends and enjoy an evening of jazz and food! Tickets can be found online or at the gate.

The Columbus Summer Beer Fest – August 5 to August 6 (Recurring every weekend)

The 7th annual Beer Fest will be held at Express Live this year and will include over 350 craft beers from over 100 breweries from around the Columbus area and the country! This event will also have live music and yummy foods provided by local food trucks. Tickets run from as low as $20 and are available online.

The Columbus Food Truck Festival – August 12 to August 14

Back at it again with the food trucks! The food truck festival is set for mid-August. A 3-day event that will feature over 70 of the best food trucks around Ohio (Late Night Slice anyone?!). There will be plenty of food, live music and crafts for all ages. Head to the Columbus Commons for this cool event.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
