6 Types of "Going Out" Boots And The Girls Who Wear Them

The notion that you can tell a lot about someone by just looking at their shoes never applied more than on a Saturday night in the Minnesota winter.

Getting ready to go out always involves hundreds of make-it-or-break-it decisions. Seriously, as the only girl in my family, I never realized the crucial difference between a black leather belt and a brown leather belt before living with other girls. So, next time you give someone a once-over in a desperate attempt to give them a compliment and make a new party friend, take note of their shoes. What your new bathroom BFF is wearing on her feet may give you the ultimate insight into her disposition--no, her soul.

1. Riding Boots

Let’s be honest, riding boots aren’t for the stables. Riding boots girls probably wear these shoes to class, too, but that’s fine. She just really loves Kate Middleton’s style and is very committed to looking as preppy as possible. These boots aren’t waterproof, but they’re cute. This equestrian-focused look is trendy and versatile for a multitasking girl on the go.

2) UGG Boots

Okay, so it’s not 2005 anymore, but the need for warmth is understandable. UGGs just scream, “I don’t care at all,” and that’s valid. I can’t hate on someone for a noncommittal attitude towards on-campus nightlife when that nightlife involves frozen toes and disappointing house parties. For a night in, these boots are perfect. For a night out? Why not just choose...

3) The Sturdy Winter Boot

These boots are warm, waterproof, have sturdy ankle support, traction, and rubber toe construction. It has got it all except the adventure itself. Despite the intrepid in-store branding, a winter boot on a night out indicates that the wearer herself may be a little timid -- Or, like the UGG wearer, she just doesn’t care AND she values frostbite protection.

4) Combat Boots

She’s edgy, cool, and probably ready to fight someone. Combat boots are her trusty go-to for nearly every outfit, and it’s easy to see why. Black matches everything, and so does this tough but cool style. No one’s gonna mess with her or her squad tonight.

5) Stiletto Boots

Every single weekend she’s the only one in your group that truly feels like she’s fully committing to the party lifestyle. The rest of her outfit probably includes sparkles, and she’s got an actual itinerary of all the parties she wants to go to. She’s never going to make it to all of them, but she’s willing to break her ankle trying.

6) Cowboy Boots

The cowboy boots wearer loved Taylor Swift before anyone else did, and she’s kind of sad that she switched over to the Pop genre. Her semi-cool, laid back style is showcased in these completely casual kicks. There’s some mystery in the cowboy boot wearer: Does she work on a farm? Does she just love the Western look? Who knows?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
