Moving across the world sounds terrifying, and is. I moved to Japan by myself, carrying whatever I could in my suitcases and having friends and family send me things later. But, when I moved back to America we had the government move us. All we had to do is tell them what not to pack and watch them. But there are many things we did, or should have done to make the move easier. So here are some tips in moving across the world!

1. Get things started early

Our situation didn't fully allow us to start as early as others. Many things were done within a month of moving. Finding people to help and such is hard last minute and you tend to run around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Starting early would have helped us tremendously! But we still did it.

2. Once you move, keep things organized!

When I clean I go crazy organizing too. Which helped some since the packers just tend to put things in the same area in a box. But if you're like my husband, you don't care where things go. So organize as you unpack the boxes. It might take longer but unpack all the boxes and then you can get rid of unnecessary things.

3. If you have nice friends, ask for help!

I had to ask a few friends for help. One friend watched my son for a couple of hours so I could get things done. One was willing to come and help and they were totally understanding. Just ask for some help and things will get done quicker.

4. Don't forget about the pets!

If you have pets, make sure their shots are updated and make sure you have copies of their records. I had to get mine micro-chipped to move back to the states and I suggest you do too. If they are lost they can be scanned and many times can be reunited with their owners. If you are moving to the United States the process is very simple. Make sure their shots are updated and before 30 days of the travel date. In Japan the health certificate was only good for 10 days, so make sure you set up an appointment for that well in advance. If you are moving to another country, look up the local quarantine regulations. If it is another state, look up the laws about animals and make sure to register them and to find a vet before moving!

5. Make lists!

Make a few lists. Make a packing lists for suitcases and for the things you will need during travel. If you have two shipments like we did, make sure to know what you want in the express shipment. We sent baby toys, pots and pans, silverware, a small tv, crib and changing table. We were also going to put clothes and towels in there, but we forgot to have them pack it.

6. Try not to stress.

I know moving can be stressful but be prepared, unlike us. Learn from my mistakes and get things started early. Don't forget to treat yourself a little once its all finished because you deserve it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
